Barites or barite is the moderately soft crystalline mineral form of barium sulphate (BaSO4). Approximately, 80% barites produced worldwide is used for oil and gas drilling as a weighing agent in the drill mud, primarily to prevent the explosive release of gas and oil during drilling and its unique physical and chemical properties like heaviness, high specific gravity, chemical and physical inertness, very low solubility and magnetic neutrality. It is a principal mineral of barium and is also used as a feedstock for producing various barium compounds, and is utilized as filler, extender and aggregate. Barites after converting to barium carbonate are used in the manufacture of ceramic and glass.

Commonly used as a weirghting agent for all types of drilling fluids, barites are mined in many areas worldwide and shipped as ore to grinding plants in strategic locations, where API specifies grinding to a particle size of 3 to74 microns. Pure barium sulfate has a specific gravity of 4.50 g/cm3, but drilling-grade barite is expected to have a specific gravity of at least 4.20 g/cm3 to meet API specifications.

Barite is the primary, naturally occurring, barium-based mineral.  Barium, atomic number 56, derives its name from Greek and means heavy.  Barite is also known as baryte, and in Missouri is known as "tiff”.  The primary countries in which commercial deposits of barite are currently found are the United States, China, India and Morocco.  Barite’s high density and chemical inertness make it an ideal mineral for many applications. The chemical formula for barite is BaSO4.  It has a high specific gravity of 4.50 g/cm3.  Its Mohs hardness is 3.0 to 3.5.  Barite, which may be found in a variety of colors including yellow, brown, white, blue, gray, or even colorless, typically has a vitreous to pearly luster.    USES OF BARITE Drilling Industry: The overwhelming majority of the barite that is mined is used by the petroleum industry as a weighting material in the formulation of drilling mud.  Barite increases the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud allowing it to compensate for high-pressure zones experienced during drilling.  The softness of the mineral also prevents it from damaging drilling tools during drilling and enables it to serve as a lubricant.  The American Petroleum Institute (API) has established specifications for the use of barite in drilling mud.Medical Industry: An application where many people have heard of barite is within the medical field.  A high-purity form of barite is used in the gastrointestinal tract where its density prevents x-ray penetration, and thus is visible on an x-ray.  The outline of the gastrointestinal tract thus becomes visible allowing the determination of normal and abnormal anatomy.Other Uses: Barite is also used in a wide variety of other applications including plastics, clutch pads, rubber mudflaps, mold release compounds, radiation shielding, television and computer monitors, sound-deadening material in automobiles, traffic cones, brake linings, paint and golf balls.

We are offering barite. The term barytes is derived from the greek “baros” meaning heavy. Barite is found in the southern parts of india. barytes (or barite) is a naturally occurring mineral form of barium sulphate. It is extracted by both surface and underground mining. Its main properties are its high specific gravity 4.2 – 4.5, very low solubility; it is non-toxic, and also chemically and physically non-reactive, low abrasiveness and opaqueness to x-rays. it is available in lumps and powder form. applications:- oil well drilling barite is used as a weighing agent in oil well-drilling fluids to counteract certain pressures that result from well drilling operations. In this process, barite is crushed and mixed with water & other materials. It is then pumped into the drill hole. The weight of this mixture counteracts the force of the oil and gas when it is released from the ground. This allows the oil and gas rig operators to prevent the explosive release of the oil and gas from the ground. paper-making industry in the paper industry, high-refined barites powder can be used as the filling of white paperboard and coat paper, improve the whiteness and percentage of coverage. cosmetics when used in cosmetic industry, the properties of barite powder such as high whiteness, gentle and harmless to skin allow it to replace titanium dioxide. white pigments barite is a key player in preparing white pigment (lithopone) which is a mixture of barium sulphate and zinc sulphide. This pigment is used in making white paint that is used to give a chic appearance to wooden artifacts. paints, enamel and coatings in dope and painting, it can be used as a filler and can take the place of some expensive material such as basofor, crypton, titanium dioxide, activity, monox etc. Control the viscosity of the paint compatibly to make the products with bright color, good stability. adhesives & sealants barite is dense, inert, sound & radiation-absorbing fillers for special sealants and adhesives. It is included where a higher weight is wanted in the adhesive. rubber in rubber industry, the products less than 600 mesh is used as the filling of rubber products to save cost. It improves the intensity, acid, alkali and water proof. The grinded barite powder is important additive to improve its hardness, wear resistance and anti-aging properties. It makes better the reinforcing action of caoutchouc and synthetic rubber too. plastic industry in plastic industry, it is used as the filling of plastic abs (acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene) to make the products with bright color. It boosts the intensity, stiffness and abrasive resistance of the plastic. pharmaceutical industry in medicine, it can be used as barium meal material for the intestines and stomach reflection, and also the filling for plaster. other uses:- •barite is also mixed with cement to make special radioactive storage containers to store radioactive materials. •barite serves effectively when it comes to driving away rats from your home, as it is an important ingredient in rat poison. •it is also used in commercial applications like sugar refining. •barite has the unique ability to strongly absorb x-rays and gamma rays. Consequently, it is used in medical science for special x-ray tests on the intestines and colon. •another application after its conversion to barium carbonate is in the manufacturing of ceramic glazes and lead glasses for computer monitors and television tubes to minimize radiation effects. •a more recent application of barite is in the production of brake pads and clutches for cars and trucks.
