Principle :: Inverted Bucket Steam Traps operate on difference in density between gas and liquid. Steam enters the inverted submerged bucket and it imparts buoyancy to the bucket, as a result of which, it is lifted and closes the discharge valve. When condensate enters the Trap and reaches a certain level, the weight of the bucket multiplied by leverage exceeds the differential pressure holding the valve to seat and bucket sinks and opens the valve to discharge condensate. HOW IT WORKS As condensate flows into the trap body, air and steam are trapped in the inverted bucket. This gives the bucket buoyancy and it rises with the condensate and quickly closes the valve. When entrapped steam condenses, bucket loses buoyancy, sinks and opens the discharge valve air. Which has accumulated in the top of the trap is immediately expelled by the pressure of the water which follows it to the trap outlet.
