Damper Butterfly Valve
The butterfly or wafer damper can be a stack damper where leakage is not all-important. This type has also been tried as an isolating damper for flue-gas scrubbers. The butterfly damper is lightweight, simple, quickly actuated, and often comparatively low in cost. Its frame shape is a handicap in power plant work, however, where much ducting is rectangular. In process work, oval shapes adapt to that shape of duct, but conversion of a round butterfly to a rectangular one results in a louver damper. Occasionally, a double-disc butterfly appears, resembling a circular two-bladed louver damper.
...morepoppet damper
The Poppet damper resembles a globe valve, with a short lift directly from a circular port. It finds application primarily in baghouses. The seating must be tight, and an anti rotation guide for the disc spindle makes certain that the disc seal surface will repeat its positioning on the seat at each closing. Poppet Dampers are ideal for applications that require quick cycling time and tight shut-off. Poppet dampers provide isolation capabilities for bag house applications and incineration systems. Poppet dampers are used for multi-directional airflow control. They are engineered to control the reverse gas flow, outlet flow, and bypass flow of gases, in turn enhancing filtration, eliminating gas starving and reducing bag wear. Poppet valves employ a seal disc that is capable of extremely rapid actuation and used in critical gas ducting applications that require rapid diversion or isolation of gasses. Applications : Isolation of a single duct (two-way) Control flow from one gas path to either of two new paths (three-way) Control flow from two gas paths to either of two new paths (four-way) Performance advantages : 99.9 to 100% sealing efficiency One second or less cycle time standard design features Stainless steel push rod and seal disc Self aligning seal disc options : Configuration options (2-way, 3-way or 4-way) Pneumatic or hydraulic actuation Controls

Disadvantages of the butterfly damper include high leakage, blade flutter, tendency of the blade to warp, and large clearance needs for the open blade. The frame of most butterfly dampers is light, so twisting and distortion are dangers. Most butterfly blades or discs are flat and single-thickness, so reinforcement is necessary for pressurized duct service. Either angles or simple bars on edge will stiffen the plate. Welding of the reinforcing can warp the plate badly, requiring straightening. Another disadvantage of reinforcing is the flow resistance it causes when the damper is open. Seals for the butterfly damper are usually simple, either flat metal-on-metal, or a soft seat resembling a tadpole gasket. The drive for a butterfly damper is also simple, needing only 90° of motion. The torque requirement can vary widely over damper life, if corrosion and thermal effects are severe. Electric motors, air cylinders, and oil cylinders are able to actuate butterfly dampers with little difficulty

...moreMulti Louver Damper
Multi Louver Damper The louver type of damper consists of several blades mounted parallel across a duct, with centrally pivoted shafts extending out through a frame and driven by a linkage. Louver dampers are versatile, able in theory to handle any application in the power plant. Some of their advantages: Fit anywhere in ducting, at any altitude. Compact, no bonnet, little external clearance needed. Lightweight Drive and linkage more readily accessible Control function simple with opposed blades. Thin metal blade construction gives quick response to thermal transients. Fast opening and closing. Low leakage to outside environment. Good modulation and control characteristics. Actuation power requirements are low. Normally does not require a support structure. Louver dampers have basic disadvantages, however. Here's a partial list: Large leakage perimeter. Leakage through seals goes downstream inside the duct. Comparatively high pressure drop because of blade and seal obstruction of flow. Obstructions such as seals, shafts, stops, and fasteners tend to catch ash and scrubber slop. Inherent flimsiness of long thin blades tends to promote flutter. Blades and seals, always in the flow, tend to corrode and erode more. Blades can buckle and wrap, causing leakage and lockup. Bearing troubles are possible. Inadequate drive power and blade strength to crush through concretions and force a seal. Larger flange-to-flange required to contain blade(s) in full open position. Sealing problems in dirty applications. More moving parts and thus increased maintenance The drive for a louver are simple, needing only 90° of motion. The torque requirement can vary widely over damper life, if corrosion and thermal effects are severe. Electric motors, air cylinders, and oil cylinders are able to actuate louver dampers with little difficulty. Louver dampers are best applied to balance or control flow. The normal leak path of 0.7% of duct area produces a three to five percent leak rate in average applications. As a general rule, a damper should be used in the middle third of the control range for best results. This gives equal percentage in either direction should the need arise. A variety of options are available. Metallic spring seals, sealed (dust tight) blade ends, shear seals, and many materials are available. Leakage performance of a louver depends on ratio of flowing to shutoff pressure, design temperature, number of blades, and blade edge treatment. Since the first two are system related, the last two are the usual areas of improvement. Reduction of number of blades reduces leak path to the limit that a single blade has only perimeter leakage.
...moreOpposed Blades Louver Dampers
are the most effective type of damper for controlling the flow of gases with the least disturbance to flow in ducts. Each pair of blades is carefully fitted to ensure precise operation in opposing directions, and thus creating highly controllable passages for the gas. The frame is made from a formed or fabricated channel and is designed to withstand any system upset conditions. The blades are designed to adequately handle all loads, up to and including upset conditions with a maximum center span deflection determined by the engineering department so as to ensure smooth and trouble free operation. The drive shafts are supported in maintenance-free bearings. An adjustable floating packing gland seals the shaft passage through the damper frame. A special non-binding, fully adjustable external linkage is used to operate the damper. A wide variety of operators can be specified -electric, pneumatic, hydraulic or manual.

...moreDiverter Damper
Although any two dampers can be used to divert flow, Diverter dampers are a common way to divert a flow of gas from one outlet to another. Diverter dampers are simple and can withstand high temperatures. The blade is located out of the gas stream, so erosive particles do not impact directly on the surface. Disadvantages include the large side of the frame and drive, and flutter of the blade when moving across the flow or when splitting flow between outlets. The frame of a diverter damper represents a large piece of ducting with a branch in it. This frame requires reinforcement to ensure that the seal seats will retain reasonable flatness at temperatures near 900°F. The blade itself is built up to give stiffness for tight sealing and flutter resistance. Hinging of the blade is at the duct top and at the aperture edge farthest from the source of hot gas. This mounting allows upstream pressure to help seat the blade tightly. One type of a seal consists of a tadpole-type gasket or rolled-up inconel fiber sheet, which is compressed by the closing blade. The blade strikes a metal bar stop, so the gasket is not compressed beyond the desired shape. The gasket completely surrounds the exit port, leaving a clearance along the duct wall, so the blade can swing freely. Diversion of gas-turbine exhaust is not the only application for the swinging blade damper. In a straight duct, it can act as a bypass damper, as in flue gas desulfurization work. Advantages of Diverter Dampers: Good isolation Low pressure drop across the wide open damper Flow modulation may be possible Good for high temperature applications Blade can be insulated to mitigate condensation Seal air requirements lower than with louver type Disadvantages of Diverter Dampers: Movement is slow A large frame structure required Sensitivity of attitude is higher than for the louver damper Linkages exposed to flue gas Not much experience in coal-fired boiler applications Generally more costly than either the louver or guillotine on a per unit basis A Gas Flow Diverting Damper is a three way damper ideally suited for gas flow diversion in bypass systems and is used for alternate isolation. A diverter replaces two guillotines or louver dampers and is very cost effective as it utilizes a duct transition piece providing three ports. Only one actuator system is required, simplifying flow control and making improper isolation impossible. They are used widely in bypass stacks of gas turbine combined cycle plants. The frame of a swinging blade damper represents a large piece of ducting with a branch in it. This frame requires reinforcement to ensure that the seal seats will retain reasonable flatness at elevated temperatures. The blade itself is built to give stiffness for tight sealing and flutter resistance. The hinging of the blade is at the top of the duct and at the aperture edge farthest form the source of hot gas. This mounting allows upstream pressure to help seat the blade tightly.

...moreRadial vane louver dampers
Radial vane louver dampers have cantilevered or center-supported radial blades spaced around a circular frame are rotated by a linkage outside the ring frame. The blades usually turn in the same direction, so this damper imparts whirl to the air. Buffering and vibration, occurring in disturbed flow, can be dangerous. The Radial Vane Damper is predominantly used on fan inlet applications, offering an enhanced level of flow and pressure control. A Radial Vane Damper has multiple blades arranged around a central hub enhancing the performance of the fan by introducing swirl into the fan inlet providing an efficient method of control. "CAIR" Radial Vane Dampers can be fitted with any form of actuation allowing either local or remote modulating control. ...moreFire Damper
Fire dampers are passive fire protection products used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) ducts to prevent the spread of fire inside the ductwork through fire-resistance rated walls and floors. Fire/smoke dampers are similar to fire dampers in fire resistance rating, and also prevent the spread of smoke inside the ducts. When a rise in temperature occurs, the fire damper closes, usually activated by a thermal element which melts at temperatures higher than ambient but low enough to indicate the presence of a fire, allowing springs to close the damper blades. Fire dampers can also close following receipt of an electrical signal from a fire alarm system utilising detectors remote from the damper, indicating the sensing of heat or smoke in the building occupied spaces or in the HVAC duct system. Regulations and fire test regimes vary from one country to another, which can result in different designs and applications. ...moreOpen Channel Gate Valve
An open channel gate valve in which the gate blade is slidably received in parallel grooves in a frame. The gate blade carries a sealing member of truncated V-shape, which engages a seat of truncated V-shape provided on the frame. Both the seat and sealing member are disposed in axially offset relation to the plane of the gate blade. This invention relates to a valve for use in an open channel, and particularly a gate type open channel valve. Some prior valves of this type have been provided with an elastomer seal to attain a tighter or better seal than attained with a plain gate. Plasti-Fab, Inc., of Tualatin, Oreg., has produced several versions of this kind of valve. In one form, the seal is mounted on the frame and engages the gate for its full travel. In another form, the seal is mounted on the gate, for full-travel seat contact. Rodney Hunt Company manufactures a sluice gate called the "Glydaseal", purportedly under license from Ham Baker, Ltd., in which the gate has bonded to it a neoprene seal which faces in the direction of the flow axis. A mechanism, comprising a set of guide bars on the frame, engages and guides the movement of the gate and functions to wedge it against a PVC seat on the frame when the gate is closed. Adjustment of the tightness of the seal can be achieved by adjustment of the position of the guide bars toward and away from the seat. Many prior low-leakage gate valves require machining operations, particularly on the seats. These operations are time-consuming and expensive. APPLICATION: These gates are embedded / wall mounted / fixed in between two parallel walls of an open channel or mounted at the end of an open channel to isolate flow within as well as out of an open channel. These are suitable for seating / unseating water head up to the height of shutter / gate / disc MOUNTING :Wall mounted / Channel mounted / Channel embedded.
