Swell Test Apparatus (AIM 132)   It is designed to determine the swelling pressure developed by soil specimens moulded to desired densities at known moisture contents, when soaked in water. The load applied to restrain the swelling is transferred on to a load measuring proving ring through a perforated swell plate and a load transfer bar. The proving ring is attached to the lead screw of hand operated load frame. Used for tablets to determine the durability at the time of production. A transparent plastic persperx drum with cover also a shaped radial fixed blade which carries the tablets alongwith it upto the central height and lets them off while the drum is rotating, thus the tablet rub against each other without any hard impact. The drum rotates at a fix speed of 30 RPM by a geared motor. The rotation period is determined by a Electric Timer. Tablets are weighed before and after the test and the difference in weight for a perticular time period indicating the rate of abrasion.
