It is open when the ball’s hole is in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90-degrees by the valve handle. These valves allow for shut-off andor purposes of control. They have a round closure element that contains a matching pair of rounded seats. These seats allow necessary sealing to take place. If the valve is opened, the ball rotates to a point where the hole through the ball is in line with the valve body inlet and outlet.
