Used oil is defined as any oil refined from crude oil that has been used and as a result is contaminated by physical or chemical impurities. This can include lubricants, hydraulic fluids, brake fluids, greases, electrical insulation oil, machine cutting oil, mineral spirits, petroleum napthas and stoddard solvents that are not hazardous waste other than because of their ignitability.

Pyrolysis oil is a synthetic fuel under investigation as substitute for petroleum. It is extracted by biomass to liquid technology of destructive distillation from driedbiomass in a reactor at temperature of about 500°C with subsequent cooling. Pyrolytic oil (or bio-oil) is a kind of tar and normally contains too high levels of oxygen to be a hydrocarbon. As such it is distinctly different from similar petroleum products. It is commonly used as a paint thinner for thinning oil-based paint and cleaning brushes, and as an organic solvent in other applications. Mineral turpentine is a hydro treated light distillate of petroleum, and consists of a complex mixture of highly refined hydrocarbon distillates mainly in the C9-C16 range. The material is a colorless transparent liquid at room temperature. The liquid is highly volatile and the vapours are flammable. It can be a very dangerous inhalant.

Base Oil is the name given to lubrication grade oils initially produced from refining crude oil (mineral base oil) or through chemical synthesis (synthetic base oil). Base oil is typically defined as oil with a boiling point range between 550 and 1050 F, consisting of hydrocarbons with 18 to 40 carbon atoms. This oil can be either paraffinic or naphthenic in nature depending on the chemical structure of the molecules. The quality of base oils is determined by their olefinic, nitrogenated and sulfured compound contents. This is determined by the refining process which it undergoes in its cleaning and removing of impurities. In order to meet composition specifications, these oils are submitted to the hydro-treatment (HDT) process before addition of other compounds for commercial production. This process is characterized by the use of operational conditions of low or medium severity so that aromatic distribution is not seriously affected and sulfur compounds are not completely removed. Base oils are generally fully saturated and extremely pure, with very low volatility and high viscosity index. The proportions of different hydrocarbon components determine the characteristics of the base oils. Viscosity is a measure of the base oil’s ability to not thicken at low temperatures and not thin out at high temperatures. Base oils may be refined, re-refined, recycled, or reusable. Base oils are produced using an advanced hydro cracking and hydro isomerization process.

Conning oil is a highly refined product compound with non-ionic surfactants and possesses valuable properties of stability in hard and soft water. It shows excellent compatibility with other surfactants like dyes, finishing agents and other processing additives. It is non-toxic and easily removed from fiber by scouring process and will not interfere with dying and finishing process.
