A butterfly valve is a type of quarter-turn valve that can be used to control the flow of liquids or gases in a pipe. It consists of a circular disc or vane that is mounted on a shaft in the center of the valve body. When the valve is in the closed position, the disc blocks the flow of fluid through the pipe. When the valve is opened, the disc is rotated a quarter-turn, allowing fluid to flow freely.
