A caustic, crystalline acidic compound ( Phenol ) reacting under applied heat and pressure with a pungent, colorless gas ( formaldehyde ) produced a hot yellowish brown liquid when cooled, it become frangible. Solid that could be pulverized into free-flowing granular material.
