Vicat Softening Point Apparatus - Vicat softening temperature of plastics is the temperature at which a standard flat-ended indenter penetrates one millimeter into the surface of the material under test under a specified load. The test is conducted by placing a test specimen taken from the sample under test on a flat platform inside a liquid bath and applying compression load over its upper face through a flat-ended indenter. The load is applied by placing a dead weight on the upper end of the indenter. After the test specimen attains the temperature of the bath, the bath temperature is increased gradually till the indenter penetrates by exactly 1 mm into the test specimen. The bath temperature in ºC at which this happens is reported as the Vicat Softening Temperature of the sample under test. The Vicat Softening Point Apparatus (High Temperature Model) consists of a specimen support, weights, a deflection measuring device, and an immersion bath. The specimen support consists of a circular supporting plate on which the specimen is kept and a loading plate having a bush for guiding a vertical rod carrying a hardened indenting tip. The two plates are joined together with spacer rods of same material (brass) as indenting rod so that they have identical co-efficient of linear expansion.

Hot Set Test Apparatus     Model No. HST-151    The Apparatus consists of : A double walled cabinet with inside chamber of stainless steel and outside of mild steel duly painted inner dimensions of the chamber are 30 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (w x H x D ). The door is fitted with a full view glass to observe the specimen under test. Temperature Range of  Oven is Ambient to 200 + 3 degree C at sensor point. Controlled by Digital Temperature indicating Controller. The test requirement as per IS:7098 is  200+ 3°C. The oven is designed to give 8-20 air changes per hour. The air inlet is provided at the bottom in such a way that air flows over the surface of test pieces and leaves near the top of the oven. An air flow meter (Rotameter) is fitted to control and monitor the airflow rate. The Air Compressor is available as optional item. Grips are provided at the top of the oven to hang two specimens. For each sample a set of suitable weights upto 1 Kg are provided with provision to attach the weights to one end of the test pieces. For measurement of elongation, one dial gauge of 50 mm travel is provided which enables the operator to read elongation directly on the dial gauge from outside without opening the door, i.e. by keeping the temperature,  air flow conditioning same. You can hang 4 samples at one time but practical problem is to hang  weights & they should not touch with each other. So it is preferable to hang one or two samples at one time. As per latest amendment, Timer is also required (set at 20 minutes). Sample is to be cut manually after opening the door.
