HOFFMAN’S VOLTAMETER of water by volume and the electrochemical equivalent of hydrogen by electrolysis of water can be demonstrated using this. It is provided with a platinum electrode pair, carbon electrode pair, two stop cocks and a graduated limbs (capacity 50ml).Platinum electrodes can be mounted in rubber stoppers at the base of two limbs for electrolysis of water. After electrolysis hydrogen and oxygen gas will be collected in two limbs at the apex. Carbon electrodes are used for electrolysis of HCl or NH3 solutions.

For demonstration of the decomposition of water, determination of chemical composition by electrolysis and with applications in the evaluation of the electro chemical equivalent of hydrogen. For the electrolysis of water, platinum electrodes are used and for the electrolysis of ammonia or hydrochloric acid carbon electrodes are used. The electrodes, available separately, are mounted in rubber stopper for insertion into the open ends of the voltameter limbs. This method, in addition to being convenient, obviates the use of fragile connections, such as platinum wire loops fused through the limbs.
