Golden Temple The Golden Temple, is a spectacular symbol of spiritual and historical traditions of sikhs. The temple has been a source of inspiration to the sikhs . The Great Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780-1839) who is placed in the front rank of the statesmen of the century, gilded the temple with 165 Kg of gold valued at Rs. 65 lakhs in those days. The entire renovation and guilding work was completed in 25 years in 1830, hence its name Golden Temple. It is also known as Darbar Sahib the Court Divine. The whole atmosphere in the temple is blossomed with spiritual antiquity. The recital of hymns, the divine Gurbani inside the temple gives as impression that one is in the heaven. The other distinguishing feature of the structure of the golden temple was that it was made open on all four sides symbolizing that it is made open for one and all.
