Transys is used in the treatment of hemorrhage associated with severe Trauma of major surgical procedures such as thoracic surgery, in obstetric complications, in various neoplastic diseases such as metastatic carcinoma of the prostrate and leukemia and in hepatic cirrhosis.Mode of ActionTransis acts by inhibiting plasminogen activators, which have fibrinolytic properties. .Tranexamic acid competitively inhibits activation of plasminogen, thereby reducing conversion of plasminogen to plasmin (fibrinolysin), an enzyme that degrades fibrin clots, fibrinogen, and other plasma proteins, including the procoagulant factors V and VIII. Tranexamic acid also directly inhibits plasmin activity, but higher doses are required than are needed to reduce plasmin formation. In vitro, the antifibrinolytic potency of tranexamic acid is approximately 5 to 10 times that of aminocaproic acidDosage and Mode of AdministrationUsual adult and adolescent dose AdultsTransys is administered by slow I.V. Injection in doses of 1 to 2 grams as per 15-30 mg/Kg Body Weight T.I.D or by 10 mg/Kg/Hour by Continuous Infusion.
