Inductive proximity sensors are used to detect metal objects without physically touching them. It basically comprises of an oscillator whose windings constitute the sensing face. An alternating magnetic field is generated in front of these windings. When a metallic object comes in the range of magnetic field, the field strength will change. The change in the magnetic field strength is used to calculate the distance of the object. These are used as metal detectors, monitoring the position of machine parts, traffic signals and various other industrial applications. EN500 – EN600 The optical disk turns with the shaft of the encoder. The infrared-light beam emitted by the LED is picked up by sensors after having passed through the index grating and the disk grating. The index grating is fixed to the main body. The smallest turn of the disk generates a modulation of the light which is received by the sensors. This is processed by the electronic circuit of the encoder and transformed into an electrical signal, which is compatible with most measuring and controlling systems. The number of pulses (PPR) generated from a complete shaft rotation, corresponds to the number of lines on the disk. Like inductive sensors, capacitive sensors function without physical contact with the target material. Capacitive sensors allow for the detection of both, conductive and non-conductive materials, but are most commonly used for sensing materials such as plastics, liquids, powders and granular materials. In applications utilizing capacitive technology the sensitivity of capacitive proximity switches is dependent on the material characteristics of the target object. This material characteristic of the metal, plastic or liquid object will influence the sensing range and therefore the output detection point of the capacitive sensor.
