Safety and reliability have been a challenge in today�s coal fired boilers at thermal power stations. FOURESS, in technical consultation with a few discerning customers have developed the perfect solution to the pressing problem of effective isolation of PF mills. This has been done with the ingenious concept of TWIN SEAL FLAP (TSF) Isolator, which guarantees 100% sealing efficiency for safe access to on-load maintenance of PF mills. Majority of the coal fired boilers in India use guillotine gates as Isolating equipment for PF mills. This technology has become out dated owing to its ill-equipped provisions. As such, Maintenance Engineers on the site face a host of problems, some of which are as follows : Existing guillotine gates do not use an effective sealing system. This results in leakage of gas to the downstream. High velocity coal laden gas further aggravates the leakage making it virtually impossible for maintenance personnel to take up on-load maintenance. Thus an additional blanking plate becomes essential. The entire operational area gets polluted due to transit leakage during operation of the guillotine gate. There is frequent failure of cylinder seals owing to heat radiation during operation. Guillotine gates often get jammed because of high temperature (warping), mainly due to narrow guides and improver bearings. To put an end to these crippling problems, FOURESS devised a simple product called TWIN SEAL FLAP (TSF), which provides the precise solution to the above mentioned drawbacks in guillotine gates The perfect Isolator, TWIN SEAL FLAP has provided its efficacy, ever since its first installation at Koradi Thermal Power Station in 1982 and subsequent installations of over a 100 units in a number of Thermal Power Stations in India.

Installed in the cold blast line of the stove in the steel plants. The valve has a blow off device. This is used to regulate the cold blast quantity which is being supplied to stoves, without creating the back pressure on the blower, as the excess air is blown away through a blow off device which is mechanically interlinked with the main valve for proportionate opening closing.

Isolation of gas air pipelines. Used in steel plants for isolation of gas air for coke oven by-product plants like Benzol, H2SO4 plants, nitrates fertilizer, naptha, tar, ammonia liquior lines, reheating furnaces, power plants and inter plant pipelines.

This valve is an assembly of several butterfly valves with one body. It effectively controls the top pressure of the blast furnace for a wide range of flows at differential pressure. This valve is generally located after the gas cleaning plant. In case the valve is installed before GCP, water spraying arrangement can be provided.

Over this period the Rotary valves have undergone a lot of design changes to cope up with the water heads up to 795 meters or the lower heads associated with water distribution scheme. Used at the inlet of hydro turbines, these valves perform the function of isolating water turbines and emergency closure against turbine trips. One of the prominent advantages of these valves is that they have a clear bore when in open condition, thus offering a negligible friction head loss. While the low-pressure rotary valves are supplied with resilient rubber seals, metallic seating surfaces are provided for higher pressures. A combination of metal and resilient seals can also be specially designed. These specialized Butterfly valves are installed to protect hydro-electric installations against the possibility of penstock rupture. Valves are designed to close against turbine runaway during an emergency condition. These valves act as isolating devices for inspection of penstock without dewatering entire head race tunnel. Yet another important application is for large water supply schemes fed from reservoirs through long pipelines, failure of which can cause disastrous floods. Valves, by virtue of their design and robust construction, close down automatically and instantaneously in the event of the downstream pipeline failure. These valves close during over velocity condition occurring due to turbine trip or runaway condition. Fouress : Louvre dampers are designed to provided a guaranteed sealing efficiency of 99.9%, or better, on cross-sectional area. They incorporate various flexible metallic sealing systems made of austenitic stainless steel or high nickel alloys. Units can be supplied for both circular and rectangular ducts of all size for temperatures and differential pressures upto, and in excess of 650OC and 2000 mm H2O respectively. Sealing System FOURESS Louvre Isolators are provided with the leaf spring type sealing system made up of stainless steel AISI 316 or inconel 625 seals based on end application. The sealing system consists of a thin metal leaf strip.

Effectively used to isolate the blast furnace from hot blast stove in integrated steel plants and pig iron making facilities using stoves. Also are used as a stove shut-off valve and back draughting valve. For a burner shut-off valve the same design is adopted with wedge arrangements to achieve isolation of gas lines from stoves.

Simplex – fitted to the periphery of the blade is a series of flexible metallic looped and leaf-spring sealing elements. These seals are constructed of austenitic stainless steel or high nickel alloys, depending on the operating conditions. They are designed to seal against both continuous landing bars in the duct framework of the isolator and to provide a sealing margin of at least 30 mm. The metallic seals alone, give a sealing efficiency of 99.95% or better, on cross-sectional area. Duplex – 100% tightness, required to ensure complete safety for maintenance personnel working in an isolated section, is attained by creating, with a small fan, an air barrier in the inter space between the two sealing surfaces. The pressure zone, set at approximately 50 mm. H2o above the expected duct pressure, does not pump them up. This sealing arrangement has the additional advantage that it provides an automatic venting arrangement if there is a sudden pressure surge. Thus if the first sealing surface pushed off, the second, nearest the isolated section, is pressed even tighter against its landing surface and the gases are vented to atmosphere through the fan.

Glandular valves are designed to provided 100% shut-off gas ducts in continuous process plants. They provide complete isolation of auxiliary equipments, even against pressure excursions, allowing safe access for on-load inspection or maintenance, without having to close down the main process. Unscheduled emergency outages due to auxiliary equipment troubles can therefore be eliminated.

Most systems, handling gas, require sections to be isolated for maintenance without shutting down the complete plant, hitherto, in sophisticated plants, this has been achieved by using gate valves. Fouress flap isolators now offer a simpler and cheaper solutions without any loss in sealing efficiency. In particular they require less external space and no special precautions against wind loading, can be supplied in modular form, allowing easy installation in large ducts, need no external supports when installed in vertical or horizontal ducts.
