Parts are treated at a temperature lower than the a-1 transformation point in a mixed gas atmosphere consisting of ammonia and endothermic gas. While the resulting carbon and nitrogen react with the steel to carburise and nitride, the diffusion of nitrogen into the material ensures enhanced resistance to abrasion and fatigue. Austempering is an isothermal treatment that imparts superior properties to ferrous components. In line with the maxim of providing cutting edge technology services by virtue of its technical licence from Applied Process Inc to customers, HIGHTEMP offers a range of Austempering Heat Treatment services to manufacturers and end users of cast iron parts. These include - ADI (Austempered Ductile Iron), AGI (Austempered Gray Iron) and CADI (Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron). ADI is made by special heat treatment of cast ductile iron castings and ADI parts exhibit twice the strength of ductile iron with good toughness, wear resistance and fatigue strength. ADI parts are used extensively in automotive, agricultural, mining, construction and railway sectors, and have successfully replaced steel fabrications, weldments and forgings.
