Petroleum coke (Pet coke) is a carbonaceous solid derived from oil refinery Delayed Coker Unit. HMEL is in process of setting up a 9 million tonne per annum refinery at Bathinda, Punjab. In this refinery about 9 lakh tonnes per annum of High Sulphur Pet Coke will also be generated. Coke is used as a fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace. Any coal using industry can be a potential consumer of Petcoke.
