Wind Tunnels are designed to perform the different types of experiments in Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, model studies & for industrial Design Aspects. The present Wind Tunnel is configured in five parts mainly, inlet or Honeycomb section with graded screens at different intervals, jet or convergent section, Main Test Section Unit, Diffuser or Divergent Cone, Fan with Motor. The Tunnel is open Circuit type having a square test section of 300 x 300 mm. It has a contractiaon ratio of 9 & honeycomb & screens at inlet. The maximum speed in this section with a 7.5 HP electric motor drive is about 30 mtrs/sec. Smooth & continuos variations of speed are provided over a wide range by means of aerodynamic speed control (Flap) mechanism combined with variable speed drive of the electric motor. A fixed pitch 4 bladed metal/wooden fan coupled to the electric motor by suitable couplings derives the tunnel. The entire tunnel expect the motor support structure is wooden construction. Large Plexiglas windows provided on both sides of test section permit easy accessibility for model mounting etc. Necessary static pressure connections for measurement of Tunnel speed have been provided

This is an open circuit Wind Tunnel which provides a region of controlled airflow into which models can be inserted. The propulsion is provided by a fan at downstream of working section. The tunnel consists of bell mouth shaped entry to guide the air smoothly into settling chamber consisting of honeycomb and nylon mesh screens which filters and stabilizes the air flow. This follows working section or test section where various models can be tested. Two windows with acrylic sheet one each on either side will be provided for visual observation. Working section is followed by diffuser section, which reduces the dynamic pressure at the exit. A three -blade fan coupled with D.C variable speed motor is used to produce desired wind velocity. A thyristorised motor control is used for smooth variation of air velocity.
