In other words French, English, Italian and even Persian Walnut are all essentially the same botanical species. Differences in appearance are climatic and topographical, not political. European Walnut is reputed to work well with hand and machine tools, possesses medium bending strength and a very good steam bending classification. There is medium movement in service and the timber is used for high class furniture and cabinet making, turning and carvery. Historically much of the Queen Anne period furniture was crafted from Walnut.

"MR" is the acronym of "Moisture Resistant" . MR glue means the glue is resistant to moisture . Plywood with MR glue is resistant to moisture . MR plywood are usually used for home interior application, such as furniture grade plywood / blockboard and so on. Plywood is pressed under high temperature and pressure and is bonded with superior grade resin (conforming to IS 848:1974) resulting in a product which is dimensionally stable, structurally strong, exceptionally durable and has superior nail holding capacity. The word teak comes from the Malayalam word thekku. In Bengali it is called 'Segun' (সেগুন) or more commonly as Sagwan in various Indian languages. But it is naturalized and cultivated in many countries, including those in Africa and the Caribbean. Burma accounts for nearly one third of the world's total teak production. Teak is a yellowish brown timber with good grains and texture. It is used in the manufacture of door / window frames, room ventilator frame, outdoor furniture, boat decks, and other articles where weather resistance is desired. It is also used for cutting boards, indoor flooring, counterto ps and as a veneer for indoor furnishings. Teak, though easily worked, can cause severe blunting on edged tools because of the presence of silica in the wood. Teak's natural oils make it useful in exposed locations, and make the timber termite and pest resistant. Teak is durable even when not treated with oil or varnish. Timber cut from old teak trees was once believed to be more durable and harder than plantation grown teak. Studies have shown[10] Plantation teak performs on par with old-growth teak in erosion rate, dimensional stability, warping, and surface checking, but is more susceptible to color change from UV exposure.

It is planted for timber production; the wood is white with a silky lustre, and hard-wearing, used for musical instrument making, furniture, wood flooring and parquetry. Occasional trees produce wood with a wavy grain, greatly increasing the value for decorative veneers. The wood is a medium weight for a hardwood. It is a traditional wood for use in making the backs, necks and scrolls of violins. The wood is often marketed as rippled sycamore. Its uses are mainly indoor due to its perishability when in contact with soil.

Ithas been introduced to subtropical regions around the world commencing in the mid to late 19th century and is widely planted in India, Sri Lanka, Central & South America and Africa.Dubbed the most workable wood in the World in the 1800s, Silver Oak was originally from Australia. Now it grows in various other regions of the tropics to as far north as L.A. The dust from this wood is an irritant in 20% of the population. Beautiful pinks, reds, and golden tones combine with exceptional iridescent qualities to make this an excellent choice for instruments. Unique grain patterns with beautiful rays set this exotic hardwood apart from other woods. It is a relatively inexpensive choice, but is viewed by some Luthiers as preferable due to its great acoustical properties. Out of India, it is used for making guitars also. However, Silver Oak in India is more preferable for scaffolding purpose as it has more water holding capacity and good nail holding grip even at minute distance of nailing points.

The finger joint (also known as a comb joint) board is a woodworking joint made by cutting a set of complementary rectangular cuts in two pieces of wood, which are then glued. To visualize a finger joint simply interlock the fingers of your hands at a ninety degree angle; hence the name "finger joint." It is stronger than a butt or lap joint, and often forms part of the overall look of the piece. It can be used to make joinery material, beams, table tops, parquet flooring, Cabinet shutters, Wardrobe panels, Stave panels and Staircase panels. It is also used for high traffic areas such as gymnasiums, racquetball clubs and dance floors, as well as the hardwood floors found in homes. In general, finger joints add strength as it has less warpage due to usage of shorter pieces of lumber. They offer a way to upgrade smaller pieces of rubber wood into usable products.

The northern red oak is one of the most important oaks for timber production in North America. Quality red oak is of high value as lumber and veneer, defective logs are used as firewood. Other related oaks are also cut and marketed as red oak, although their wood is not always of as high a quality. These include eastern black oak, scarlet oak, pin oak, Shumard oak, southern red oak and other species in the red oak group. Construction uses include flooring, veneer, interior trim, and furniture. It is also used for lumber, railroad ties, and fence posts.Red oak wood grain is so open that smoke can be blown through it from end-grain to end-grain on a flat-sawn board. For this reason, it is subject to moisture infiltration and is unsuitable for outdoor uses such as boatbuilding or exterior trim.

It is transformed into a beautiful and functional door by laminating two pieces of moulded door skins over it. Honeycombs as wel as solid timber strips infill are then used to fill up the hollow core between the door skins for strength and stability.The door skins are made of high quality HDF, which ensured minimal moisture retention and bloating, as compared to MDF door skins. Compared to other types of doors, skin doors have near to zero defects and do not expand or contract as much, even in extreme climate conditions. Even if they experience severe expansion and contraction, skin doors will still retain their shape.

Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) is an engineered wood panel product. It is specially manufactured for furniture and joinery industries. Padauk wood is obtained from several species of Pterocarpus. All padauks are of African or Asian origin. Padauks are valued for their toughness, stability in use, and decorativeness, most having a reddish wood. Most Pterocarpus woods contain either water- or alcohol-soluble substances and can be used as dyes. The padauk found most often is African Padauk from Pterocarpus soyauxii which, when freshly cut, is a very bright red but when exposed to sunlight fades over time to a warm brown. Its colour makes it a favourite among woodworkers. Burmese Padauk is Pterocarpus macrocarpus while Andaman Padauk is Pterocarpus dalbergioides. Padauks can be confused with rosewoods to which they are somewhat related, but as a general rule padauks are coarser and less decorative in figure.  

Postforming provides an ideal solution wherever furniture has to be protected from mechanical, thermal or chemical loads. The outstanding benefit: the surface and edge of the panel are protected by a continuous laminate. Traditionally postform countertops were manufactured with a solvent-based contact cement (a highly flammable, volatile organic compound - VOC). However, in today's marketplace PVA adhesives have taken over for reasons of environmental responsibility (no VOC's), safety (non-combustible), economy, and strength of the glue line. Membrane pressed kitchen shutters are very popular. They are manufactured by using MDF and PVC film suitable for membrane pressing. This is a special film which is printed with the wood grain or any other design which can be elongated without any deformation and this is soft and flexible before it is heated and applied. Once this film is heated and pressed, it becomes very hard and rigid, giving very high scratch resistance and durability. For this process, heat activated polyurethane glue is used.

The European species Fagus sylvatica yields a utility timber that is tough but dimensionally unstable. It weighs about 720 kg per cubic metre and is widely used for furniture framing and carcass construction, flooring and engineering purposes, in plywood and in household items like plates, but at times it is used as a decorative wood at little humid climtes as well. The timber can be used to build chalets, houses and log cabins.
