Scrofalon Sterile Absorbable Gelatin Sponge
Introduction : Gelatin is a substantially pure protein food ingredient, obtained by the thermal degeneration of collagen, which are the structural mainstay and most common protein in the animal kingdom. Gelatin sponges have been used in clinical practice as hemostats for more than 50 years and been proven to be effective and safe as other types of haemostats. Due to the threat of BSE/TSE issues on Bovine origin materials, Porcine Gelatin Materials have been developed and now they are widely being used in Pharmaceutical Industry. Product Description : Scrofalon® is a surgical haemostatic sponge, manufactured from highly purified neutral gelatin material exclusively from porcine origin for use in various surgical procedures, where traditional heamostasis is difficult or impractical and use of other non-absorbable materials are undesirable. Available in different convenient dimensions in Gamma sterilized form with suitable double sterile blister packaging or pouches for special sizes. Scrofalon® absorbs approximately 40-50 times, it's weight of water and adheres easily to the bleeding site. The uniform porosity Scrofalon® guarantees a favourable haemostasis. When implanted in vivo, it is completely absorbed within 3-4 weeks. Scrofalon® is non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-immunogenic, non-pyrogenic and meets the bicompatibility requirements as per EN ISO 10993 standards. Indications : Plastic Surgery Neurosurgery General Surgery Dermatology ENT and Dental Surgery Gynaecology Orthopedics and Trauma Anorectal surgery Abdominal Surgery Application & User Guide : Scrofalon® is white, pliable, light, and insoluble in water. It is removed from the package under strict aseptic conditions and can be cut to desired size, applied dry or saturated with physiologic. salt solution or thrombin or an antibiotic solution of the desired concentration. Squeeze the material between two fingers to remove the air bubbles so that the sponge, while immersed in the solution will regain its original size and shape almost immediately. At the time of use, the superfluous solution may be allowed to drip upon a gauze compress. The saturated sponge is then applied to the haemorrhage area and is then held in place with moderate pressure for 10-15 seconds. Usually the first application of Scrofalon® will control bleeding, but if not, additional applications should be made using fresh pieces of sponge. When bleeding is controlled, the pieces of Scrofalon® should be left in place, otherwise bleeding may start again. Since Scrofalon® causes little more cellular infiltration than the blood clot, the wound may be closed over it. Contraindications : Scrofalon® should not be used in closure of skin incisions because it may interfere with the healing of skin edges.Precautions & Warnings : Scrofalon® is a sterile product and should not be resterilised, as it would change the characteristics of the product. Discard the unused portions of the sponge. Use of Scrofalon. is not recommended for infected sites. By absorbing the fluid, the sponge may expand and thus impinge on neighboring structures. Hence, minimal pre-compression is advised when packing into cavities. In neuro surgery, it should not be left in closed cavities, since it may cause compression of the nervous tissues when it expands. While using Scrofalon® other normal homeostatic procedures including suture, pressure and ligature should be neglected.

Introduction : Surgeons who treat Burns and Trauma etc. face a real challenge in closing the raw areas due to non-availability of adequate Donor areas. It is for this reason, Biological Skin Substitutes have been evolved which come very handy for the Surgeons to manage the raw areas efficiently and to reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with Burns and Wounds. Among the Biological skin Substitutes Collagen Dressings have been widely established as an effective dressing for Burns and Wounds because of the easy commercial availability in sterile usage conditions in convenient sizes. An attempt has been made to offer the Collagen based dressing in a transparent film form impregnated with SSD loaded alginate microspheres to deliver SSD in a controlled fashion, to control infection for an extended time period with lesser dressing frequencies and to enable easier assessment of Burn Wound Healing. The in-vitro release studies confirm the release of SSD up to 6 days. There is a 40% release on the first day of application and for the remaining days, the release is above MIC value with Pseudomonas aeruginosa used as a reference standard. This concept has come very handy for Burn surgeons in treating infected and contaminated burns, using the same established Biological Dressing concept.Contents : Each Neüskin®-FS pack contains sterile Type 1 Collagen dry membrane of fish origin impregnated with 1% Silver sulphadiazine w/w USP as microspheres as per the label claim. Sterilized by Ethylene Oxide.Salient Features : Quick and easy application Controlled and sustained release of SSD upto 6 days Minimal dressing changes Biocompatible as per EN ISO 10993 Standards Non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-immunogenic and non-pyrogenic Collagen : Collagen is an extra cellular matrix protein playing a major role in connective tissue. It is the most abundant protein in humans and performs multiple functions. In fish, the largest concentrations of collagen is found in the skeleton, fins, skin, and air bladder. Collagen as a bio-material and its role in wound management is a well-documented subject. Collagen encourages wound healing through the deposition and organization of freshly formed fibers and granulation tissues in the wound bed and thus creating a very conducive environment to wound healing.Role of collagen in wound healing : Stops bleeding (Hovig et al., 1968) Helps in wound debridement by attracting Monocytes (Postlewaithe and Kang, 1976) Provides a Matrix for Tissue and Vascular Growth (Kleinman et al, 1981a) Attracts Fibroblasts and helps in directed Migrations of cells (Dunn and Ebendal, 1978) Binds with Fibronectin, which promotes cell binding (Kleinman et al., 1981b) Supports growth (Morykwas et al., 1989), differentiation and migration (Emerman and Pitelka,1977) of Keratinocytes Helps in deposition of oriented and organized fibres (Doillion et al, 1984), which increase the integrity of the tissue Silver sulphadiazine : The best identified topical antibacterial agent to control infections in Burns and Wounds clinically is Silver sulphadiazine. It possesses a broad spectrum of activity against gram+ve and gram –ve bacteria as well as fungi. Its ability to be effective even at low concentration in reducing invasive early burn wound sepsis and burn wound injuries. Indications : Partial thickness infected/contaminated Burn Wounds Skin Donor sites Trauma Wounds Chronic Wounds Application : Clean application site in usual manner Place the SSD impregnated rough surface of the sheet facing the wound It is recommended to have a non-adherent secondary dressing followed by a light absorbent dressing over Neuskin®-FS after its firm placement on the wound For removal, simply lift off. If necessary, wet with saline solution prior to removal. Replace as required Precautions & Warnings : Avoid on patients hypersensitive to collagen and fish products The product is not sterile if the packing is damaged Neüskin®-FS is single use product, which should not be resterilized Remove Neüskin®-FS if any allergy or irritation persists Avoid exposure to direct sunlight

Silicone Gel Sheet for Effective Scar Management : The skin can be damaged in multitude of ways that can be a burden to the patient particularly when it develops into red and raised hypertrophic and keloid scarring. Restriction of movement as well as itching can cause great discomfort and emotional distress. Unacceptable scarring can be induced by a variety of factors including burns, accidental trauma and chronic wounds. A scar is part of the normal process of healing. The type of scar that forms can depend on a variety of factors including the nature of the injury, the part of the body, size and depth of the wound. Scars mostly consist of a protein called collagen, which is the most common tissue in the body. Keloid scarring is the result of build up of collagen in the area, making the scar larger than the actual size of the wound whereas hypertrophic scarring is without the excess collagen build up so that the scar is confined to the original wound area. The Silicone Gel Sheet is derived from high quality polysiloxane material. It is believed that it promotes hydration of the scar area and the concept has been medically proven to improve the appearance by softening, flattening and fading red and raised scars. Some injuries will leave a flat white scar that will normally fade away in time and Lysil is not recommended for these type of scars. Salient Features : F Excellent biocompatibility as per EN ISO 10993 standards F Extreme purity F Enhanced performance F Permeable to water vapour F Air permeable F Reinforced with fine Dacron fabric which enhances the durability and handling properties F Preserves the skin elasticity and effectively prevents tissue from drying out Indications : F Red and raised, old and new scars F Hypertrophic scars F Keloids F Treatment of erythema following resurfacing treatments with CO lasers, chemical peels 2 and dermabrasion Instructions for use : F Wash hands before and after use. F Cut the gel sheet to a required size to suit the scar area. F Remove the plastic liner sheet. F Place the gel sheet, adhesive side to the scar, without stretching. If necessary a light bandage or tape can be used to keep the Lysil™ in place. F Initially for two to three days, use Lysil™ for 2-4 hours. For next two days use for 4-8 hrs each day. Then increase the wear time to 12-24 hours. F Clean the Lysil™ with a mild soap and rinse well and dry with a non fluffy / lint free towel as and when it is required. F Wash the scar and the surrounding skin area with soap, rinse well and dry. F Lysil™ should be replaced when the thickness of sheet is reduced beyond its usability. F Lysil™ has to be used for 2-4 months to get a very good result.
