The aim of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) is to endorse and uphold cooperation among engineers and scientists for the progression and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics and allied fields and their practical applications. This society provides a common forum for academicians, researchers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and other professionals interested in Geotechnical activity. For the advancement and betterment of geotechnical engineering in the North-Eastern (NE) region of India and to promote interaction among geotechnical engineers of the North Eastern Region of India, “IGS Guwahati Chapter (NE)” was established in 2005.
