we are offering ikat fabric. ikats ikat-is a type of weaving where the wrap, weft or both are tie-dyed before weaving to create designs on the finished fabric. great care must be taken in tying resist areas with water repellent material such as bicycle inner tubes cut in to strips. the precision of the wrapping determines the clarity of the design. after wrapping, the warp threads are dyed. when finished and unwrapped, the areas under the ties have stayed the original color. numerous colors can be added after additional wrappings. designs generally are worked out on graph paper. great care must be taken in putting the wrap on the loom, keeping all the treads in position in necessary for the design to work. the natural movement during weaving gives ikat designs a feathered edge, which characterizes this technique. in the ikat tie and dye process, the designs in various colors are formed on the fabric either by the wrap threads or the weft threads or both. the threads forming the design are tied and dyed separately to bring in the desired color and the simple interlacement of the threads produces, the most intricate designs that appear only in the finished weaving. the orrisa ikat is a much older tradition that andra pardesh or gujarat, and their more popular motifs as such are a stylized fish and the rudraks bead. here the color is built up thread. in fact, orissa ikat is known now as yarn tie and dye. in andra pradesh, they bunch some threads together and tie and dye and also have total freedom of design. some say that ikat was n innovative technique, first created in india, which was later carried to indonesia, the only other place in the world with a strong ikat tradition. intricate wrap-ikat fabrics have been produced by a unique method of wrap effects creating a beautiful muted look of a water effect prints. to create an ikat fabric, the artisan first stretches warp yarns on a frame, and binds selected areas with raffia. the warp bundles are then dyed, producing resist patterns wherever the dye cannot penetrate. then selected areas are unbound, other areas are bound, and the yarns are immersed in a second dye bath. finally, the bindings are removed, the wrap yarns are placed on a simple back strap loom, and the fabric is woven with a plain weft. through this painstaking process, sophisticated textile art is produced with both drama and subtlety. using dyes the process of resist dyeing, tie-dyeing and yarns tie-dyed to pattern before weaving were the basic techniques of indigenous dyeing of village clothing.
