The paddle type liquid flow switches are single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switches that are used in liquid lines carrying water, ethylene glycol, or other liquids not classified as hazardous. They can be wired to energize one device and de-energize another device powered from the same source when liquid flow, either exceeds or drops below the set flow rate.The flow switches are recommended for liquid pressure and temperature as mentioned below and must not be used on lines carrying liquids below 0°C. They can be used on liquids with high salt or chlorine content but is not for use in hazardous atmospheres.The typical applications in HVAC include chillers, boilers, etc.

Both control contacts of the Series 1831 activate at the same time. The potential of the lead switch shutting down the fan preventing the lag switch from sending an alarming signal to the DDC is no longer a probable system liability. Potential costly maintenance calls are diminished. Unlike typical switches that posses only a single conduit entry for both control loops, the Series 1831 provides two conduit connections simplifying wiring while eliminating additional conduit tees. The Series 1831's specifications and features make it the superior choice for high duct static cutout applications.
