The evaporated moisture from the green leaf is brought about by moving or blowing air over the leaves in the withering trough. The force of the air will serve two purposes i.e. transmitting the heat from leaves to achieve physical withering. Presently in most of the tea factories withering trough is practiced and the dimension of trough varies. Withering troughs are normally placed in the first floor of the factory. Crude salt is pre-washed in special washing system. This is then fed to the feed in hopper of the wet mill for grinding. Wet mill is used to grind the salt with the help of saturated brine solution. This mixture is then passed to the slurry tank that is fitted with a slow speed agitator. This slurry is then pumped through centrifuges gear pump to the wash tank by a slurry pump, wherein dirt is removed from the slurry.

Washing tank is used to washing out the residue from the crude salt. Washing process helps removal of fine impurities and washes out from the bottom of the tank.

Washing screw conveyor is used for salt transportation and washing. Salt is driven spirally for agitated washing and transportation. The wash liquid is sprayed into at the middle of washer for counter current washing. Suspending impurities flow out from overflow channel and precipitated impurities is periodically discharged from bottom dirty removing valve.

The drying is the most sensitive stage in the salt processing and its efficiency, accuracy & thoroughness are all crucial to the quality of end product.
