A raising spindle: in this type, a spindle is attached to the gate but the gate is not rotating with the hand wheel A non-raising spindle: Here spindle rotates with the help of screw attachment in the gate Despite its elegance and appropriate action, it is difficult to operate sluice valve. A heavy force is required to unseat them against the unbalanced high pressure. This process takes few minutes to open and close, sometimes manually operating actuators are used. The difficulties could be overcome by using a valve of smaller bore than the diameter of the pipeline.
