Typically when front cards are replaced or maintenanced, the chassis cabling needs to be disconnected and the system shut down while work is done. Molex’s MPT CPI Coplanar Optical Backplane Interconnects enable front cards to be replaced without disrupting cabling at the rear of the chassis. This results in maintenance flexibility, minimal service disruption and a smooth transition from front blade active devices to the rear transition module. Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) specifications were developed to standardize requirements for communication network infrastructure. ATCA zone 3 connectors are used to connect a front board to a rear transition module. The MPT CPI interconnects meet the dimensional requirements of ATCA zone 3 connector specifications, making it an industry standard connector system for multi-fiber and parallel optical transceiver applications. Not all communication networks are comprised of ATCA-compliant infrastructure but need high-performing and versatile components nonetheless. The MTP CPI Optical Backplane Connector System can be used in any coplanar backplane, along with ATCA applications. It’s easy to design in and is mounted directly to the card with a simple pass-through cutout in the optical backplane. The use of the MT ferrule in the MTP connector provides 8 to 72 fibers.
