The coal is of a very high quality with an average calorific value of 6000Kcal/kg, fixed carbon of around 57%, volatile matter of 23%, ash content of around 14.6%, moisture content of 9% and total sulphur content of 0.5%. This coal is from Botswana in the southern part of Africa, next to South Africa, and it is called sub-bituminous coal. Others call it steam coal also known as thermal coal, and is mainly used in power generation and cement production. Large amounts of energy are required to produce both electricity and cement.
