The WSR-98D combines state-of-the-art technologies with proven off-the-shelf components to create a system that is reliable and easy to operate. In addition to its very attractive up-front cost, WSR-98D is also extremely cost-efficient to maintain. S band radars operate on a wavelength of 8-15 cm and a frequency of 2-4 GHz. Because of the wavelength and frequency, S band radars are not easily attenuated. This makes them useful for near and far range weather observation.
