    The coal is of a very high quality with an average calorific value of 6000Kcal/kg, fixed carbon of around 57%, volatile matter of 23%, ash content of around 14.6%, moisture content of 9% and total sulphur content of 0.5%.   This coal is from Botswana in the southern part of Africa, next to South Africa, and it is called sub-bituminous coal. Others call it steam coal also known as thermal coal, and is mainly used in power generation and cement production. Large amounts of energy are required to produce both electricity and cement. It takes about 50 Kilograms of coal to produce 1 Tonne of cement. Large amounts of energy are required for the production of cement – a critical component for the construction industry. Much of this energy is supplied through coal. The quality of our coal falls within the range of current global seaborne bituminous exports. The table below shows how the quality stacks up with international requirements, dependent on end user requirements. The figures are from raw coal specs and after the wash process; they will be within global specifications and requirements. This data sample is derived from washability tests that have been conducted on the coal of some junior miners in Botswana as they prepare for production.
