It is specially useful for determination of moisture in substance, that quickly reabsorbs moisture after drying. The infrared radiation is controlled by a voltage regulator and thereby provides excellent heat control. The instrument is provided with an indicator lamp. The torsion balance has a built-in magnetic damper to reduce pan vibrations enabling quicker weighing. The balance scale (drum) is divided in terms of moisture percentages on wet weight basis, which are read directly from it. Graduations are from 0 to 100% in 0.2 % divisions, but readings may be estimated to 0.1 % moisture content. It works on 230 V, 50 Hz, Single phase, AC Supply.

Rapid moisture meter, Using a speedy moisture meter, the moisture content of soils, sand and other fine-grained material can be obtained quickly with reasonable accuracy. The test technique is based on the fact that water will react with calcium carbide to form acetylene gas and the quantity of gas formed is directly proportional to the water present, leaving a surplus of the chemical used in the test. The quantity of acetylene gas produced is indicated on a built-in pressure gauge, which is calibrated in percentage of moisture on wet weight basis.

When compressed air is dried in an air dryer, it is generally used for critical applications. It is therefore essential that the Dryness (moisture content) of the air be checked on regular basis. Most dryers guarantee a Dew Point 40°C or below. This means that only if the air is cooled to that temperature, moisture will condense out of the air. The Dew point apparatus is a simple device which cools the compressed air and also provides visual indication of the Dew Point temperature. Dry air enters the glass body of the apparatus through a valve of the bottom. It swirls around the brightly polished chrome plated tube and exits the atmosphere at the tip. Either and dry ice is filled in the tube and the mixture is stirred with the help of a stirrer. The temperature of the tube is then measured by a low range temperature thermometer. The temperature of the tube is then progressively lowered by periodic addition of dry ice by the mixture. When the tube temperature reaches the Dew Point temperature, moisture will condense on the brightly polished surface, making it cloudy. The temperature recorded at that time is the Dew Point temperature. As a precautionary measure, the test should be repeated for verification.

For quick determination of moisture content of materials in powder from i.e. soil sand, coal, pottery, ganister, cement etc. A weighed quantity of the substance under test is placed in the body of the tester together with a measured quantity of absorbent and the tester is then sealed and shaken vigorously thereby bringing the sample and the absorbent into intimate contact. The pressure of gas liberated by interaction of moisture in the sample and absorbent actuates the gauge which is directly graduated in percentage moisture on the wet weight basis.
