An ESE (Early Streamer Emission) lightning arrester Model Saturn is a device designed to protect structures and buildings from the damaging effects of lightning strikes. Unlike traditional lightning rods, which are passive conductors that attract lightning strikes, ESE lightning arresters are active devices that emit an upward ionization field to intercept the lightning discharge before it reaches the protected structure. The principle behind ESE lightning arresters is based on the early streamer emission effect. These devices have a sharp metal tip connected to a network of conductors and an ionization mechanism. When the electrical field in the atmosphere increases due to the approach of a lightning strike, the ESE lightning arrester starts to emit ions into the air, creating an upward leader. This upward leader is intended to attract the lightning strike towards the device's tip, where it is safely conducted to the ground through the lightning protection system.   ESE lightning arresters are often used with a comprehensive lightning protection system, including grounding systems and surge protection devices, to provide maximum protection against lightning-related damage to structures, buildings, and their occupants.
