the ability of textiles to recover from creases is determined by measurement of its crease recovery angle. In this test the test specimen is first creased under a specified load for specified period of time and it then transferred to the angle measuring device where one of its ends is held in a spring loaded clamp while the other end is allowed to fall freely under its own weight. This clamped end is slowly rotated till the free end becomes vertical. The angle of deflection of the clamped end from the horizontal is read on a scale fixed to the ability of textiles to recover from creases is determined by measurement of its crease the moving clamp. This angle gives the measure of the crease recovery.

Determination of water repellency of fabric against external wetting is carried out with the help of the spray tester. The Spray Test method is used for determining the resistance of any fabric, which may or may not have been given a water resistant/repellant finishing surfacing wetting by water. In this test, a specified volume of distilled water is sprayed on a Test specimen, which has been mounted on a ring and placed at an angle of 450, so that the center of the specimen is 150mm below the spray nozzle. Pilling is a fabric surface fault characterized by little pills of entangled fibres clinging to the surface. These are formed during wearing or washing by the entanglement of the loose fibres, which protrude from the fabric surface, and development of these into spherical bundles anchored to the fabric by a few unbroken fibres. These give a very unsightly look to the garments. To determine the tendency to form pills, test specimens taken from the fabric sample are rubbed against each other under controlled conditions. The appearance of the test specimen, after rubbing for the specified period, is compared against standard rating photographs (Woven pilling photographs and knitted pilling photographs) for grading the fabric.
