...moreTAXIWAY GUIDANCE SIGNS BOARD
CLEARWAY – TAXIWAY GUIDANCE SIGNS The Clearway airfield guidance sign was originally manufactured by a Norwegian company call ‘Smiths Airfield Equipment (SAFE)’ The body of the sign is manufactured from anticorrosive aluminum extrusion which is powder coated with ‘aviation yellow’ paint. The extrusions interlocks creating a solid sign box structure which is water resistant to IP55. The fascia framework is also manufactured from an aluminum extrusion but is powder coated in black When the Clearway sign was first manufactured it utilised tungsten halogen lamps to illuminate the front polycarbonate fascia, but over time, technology has progressed. The concept of using fluorescent tubes was then adopted and specialized electronics were developed to control the brilliancy and operation of the unit. The third generation saw the implementation of LED’s in a grid format for the illumination. Throughout the different generations the power consumption of the unit reduced helping to minimize the rating of the constant current regulator (CCR) that is used to power the circuits. Although different light sources have been used internally, the ICAO candela requirements of 150cd’s for yellow taxiway information signs, 300cd’s for white used on a mandatory sign, and 30cd’s for red colors, again on mandatory signs, have always been achieved. Not only is the brilliancy of the sign important, but the chromaticity is essential ensuring that the information is displayed clearly to pilots and vehicles using the taxiway system. This is always tested during manufacture to ensure compliance of each sign against the necessary standards with a multispectral camera which also confirms light output. There are different modes of operation the sign is designed to withstand, all of which are identified in the ICAO airport design manuals. These need to be considered when installing the sign as different couplings, may need to be used. Discussion with atg airports customer support team should be able to assist in this matter. Clearway LED Conversion retrofit kit Many Clearway signs are installed at airports all over the world, and some have been in operation for more than 20 years, before the LED was even considered for airfield lighting applications. However, to enable clients to benefit from the energy saving of LED usage, a conversion kit for the ‘Smith (SAFE)’ sign and also the Clearway type is available, thus extending the life of the sign. The kit is installed into the sign and the old tungsten halogen, fluorescent or cold cathode technology can be removed. Once converted, the sign will achieve the same efficiency benefits of the Clearway LED sign.

...morephotometry controller
PAC Lab II is an associate product of PAC system (Photometric Airfield Calibration). The PAC Lab II system improves the maintenance work, making it more efficient and accurate by providing the capability to control the light output of each fitting before installing them on site. The system measures and controls all the AGL inset and elevated lights. It is placed preferably inside a dark room or a specific enclosure can be built around the system if it has to be used in a clear open space. But, thanks to a specific cache to be installed on the sensors strip, runway or approach light fittings can be measured in a normally lit office room. The system uses a computer unit for monitoring the process. The light fittings are positioned on a rotating plate in front of the PAC sensors strip fixed on a vertical bench. Bi-directional fittings are automatically measured both sides. To facilitate the operator’s action, the rotating plate moves upwards and downwards so that fitting positioning remains user-friendly. PAC Lab Photometric Airfield Calibration Workshop photometry controller Features Measures all light fittings; Beams of bi-directional fittings are measured automatically one after the other; The system is preferably installed in a dark room or a specific enclosure can be provided upon request; Or for runway and approach lights, using a dedicated cache, fittings can be measured in a normally lit office room; Reliable, precise and quick results in candela; Instant report edition; No adjustment prior measurements; Dedicated functions to support AGL maintenance; Variable measurement speed; Users of PAC system can share the same sensor strip for both in-field and workshop measurements; In option, the AGL fittings (from LED low power lights to 500W halogen fittings can be supplied with the FB Technology µCCR (dedicated for workshop use). ...morePAPI LIGHTING
Product Discription TUNGSTEN HALOGEN TECHNOLOGY The PAPI(Precision Approach Path Indicator ) is a light array positioned beside the runway. It normally consists of four equi-spaced light units color-coded to provide a visual indication of an aircraft's position relative to the designated glideslope for the runway. The PAPI is usually located on the left-hand side of the runway at right angles to the runway center line. The units are spaced 9 meters apart with the nearest unit 15 meters from the runway edge. A PAPI can, if required, be located on the right-hand side of the runway. At some locations PAPIs are installed on both sides of the runway but this level of provision is beyond the requirements of ICAO. The light characteristics of all light units are identical. Each light unit consists of one or more light sources, red filters and lenses. Each light unit emits a high-intensity beam. The lower segment of the beam is red, and the upper part is white. The transition between the two colours must take place over an angle not greater than three minutes of arc. This characteristic makes the color change very conspicuous, a key feature of the PAPI signal. To form the PAPI guidance signal, the color transition boundaries of the four units are fixed at different angles. The lowest angle is used for the unit furthest from the runway, the highest for the unit nearest to the runway. The designated glideslope is midway between the second and third light unit settings. Depending on the position of the aircraft relative to the specified angle of approach, the lights will appear either red or white to the pilot. The pilot will have reached the normal glidepath (usually 3 degrees) when there is an equal number of red and white lights.
