These studs can be welded to base metal with two different processes. One is resistance welding and other is Arc Welding. Most commonly used process is Arc Welding in Automotive, Construction, and Engineering Industries. Three different types used in Arc Welding are, Drawn Arc Welding, Short Cycle Welding and Capacitor Discharge Welding. Heat Required for welding is generated by DC arc between Stud and base Metal. Welding Current is gained from Mains Transformer. Welding time and Welding Current is controlled by a microprocessor controller as per the combination of Stud to be welded and the base metal. It is very important to select the proper process according to shape of the stud being used. The process and machine capacity is selected depending upon the stud size, strength required and productivity required.

Drawn Arc Studs are special studs that are used with a Drawn Arc Stud Welding Machine.These comes in dierent sizes ranging from M6 onward ( 6 mm onward stud diameter) and all available length, They are available in Stainless Steel(SS), Mild Steel(MS).These Drawn Arc Studs are used in combination with Ceremic Ferrules for hielding.

The stud and the ceramic ferrule is loaded into the stud-welding gun. The gun is positioned on the work piece. After gun triggering the stud lifts by producing pilot-arc approx. 1 to 4 mm from the work piece. The lifting way depends on the diameter. Afterwards the main arc is started. The stud front-surface and the work-piece surface in the area of the ceramic ferrule becomes molten. The ceramic ferrule limits the arc area. After an infinitely variable adjustable weld time the stud is pressed by feather pressure in the molten metal and the main current is switched off. After removing the gun from the welded stud, also the ceramic ferrule has to be removed. As a weld result you see a homogeneous connection with calibrated welding fillet.
