Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) has been used as a bleaching chemical (for bleaching pulp) commercially for many years in Pulping Industries. Chlorine Dioxide production processes are based on the reduction of chlorate (using Cl-, CH3OH or SO2) in the presence of either sulphuric or hydrochloric acid where etching and corrosion occurs at the equipments used throughout the process.

Calcium hydroxide solids and chlorine gas in counter current fashion is brought together to induce a reaction for producing Stable Bleaching powder. The amount of chlorine is same as the amount of chlorine present in bleaching powder therefore preventing the wastage of chlorine. About 35% or less of available chlorine is found in bleaching powder when freshly manufactured. Stable Bleaching powder can be used anywhere liquid chlorine is used.
