The mechanism of action of captopril is as an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. Captopril competitively inhibits angiotensin converting enzyme (ace), thereby decreasing levels of angiotensin ii, increasing plasma renin activity, and decreasing aldosterone secretion.
