De-Mattia Flex Tester has a set of grips to hold test specimens in two tiers with their holding faces lying in the same vertical plane. Holding one end of the test specimen in a fixed grip and the other end in a reciprocating grip provides the flexing and unflexing action. The set of grip has two-fixed grip and one large reciprocating grip positioned between them in order to flex half of the test specimen while the other half is being unflexed. The reciprocating grip is slide on hardened and ground rods made of high carbon steel. The reciprocating motion is provided by an eccentric and linkage mechanism driven by an electric motor through V-belt and pulleys. A six digit electronic counter is provided for indicating the number of the test cycles undergone.The equipment is build on a rigid fabricated base plate and finished in metallic painting and bright chrome/zinc plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish. Moulding dies for preparing test specimen, and jig and punch assembly for making initial crack in test specimen for crack growth test are available as optional accessories.

The strength of adhesion of sole of a shoe to its upper is determined by measuring the force needed to pull off the sole from the upper. A suitable last is placed inside the shoe which is then placed on a straight edge acting as a fulcrum for applying load on the joint of the sole and upper. The maximum load the sole is able to withstand before coming off is determined and reported as the sole adhesion strength. This test can be carried out either at the heel or at the toe of the shoe. Sole Adhesion Tester consists of a load cell and digital indicator to indicate the load applied at the junction of the sole and the upper, a lever arrangement to transmit the load exerted on the toe piece to the spring dynamometer, a straight edge fulcrum for resting the shoe on during the test, and a set of interchangeable toe pieces having different curvature. The load indicator indicate the load applied on the joint directly in kilograms, taking into account the mechanical advantage of the lever transmitting the force from the toe piece to it. The indicator has the facility of peak hold and tare. There is an screw arrangement to hold the shoe with last and have the arrangement to up and down movement (load application to the shoe) with the help of the motor, gear box, and screw arrangement. The toe piece are five in number and having different curvature to enable toes and heels of different shapes and sizes to be tested. The length of arc of each toe piece, however, is the same to ensure that the load is applied only on a fixed length of joint. They are made from carbon steel for giving a long operational life. Any one of the toe pieces can be held in the equipment at one time. The fulcrum on which the shoe is placed during the test has adjustable height to enable soles of different thickness to be tested. The height of the fulcrum is adjusted with the help of spacer strips provided with the instrument. The instrument is finished in painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish.

The flexing endurance of rubber products is determined by simulating in the laboratory the action of flexing repeatedly under standard conditions of speed, mode, and degree of flexing. One of the accepted procedure is the use of a De-Mattia Flexing Tester. This tester provides useful information about the resistance of compounds of vulcanized rubber to flex cracking when subjected to flexing. Cracks develop in that part of the surface where stresses are set up during flexing, or if that part of the surfaces initially contains a crack, cause this crack to extend in a direction perpendicular to the stress. De Mattia Flex Tester, electrically operated with single phase motor provides information about the resistance of vulcanized rubber compounds, coated and treated fabrics to cracking when subject to flexing. Crack development in that part of the surface where stresses are set up during flexing, or if that part of the surface initially containing a crack, causes this crack to extend in the direction perpendicular to stress. This test also assesses the durability of material. The machine tests six specimens at a time. STECH ENGINEERS Flexing Machines is used to test specially moulded samples for resistance to cracking or cut growth by repeated flexing. Flex testing is recommended when the flexing encountered in service is liable to simulate the action of the test. (e.g. tyre sidewalls). Cracking and cut growth increase with increasing cycles. The tester is stopped at intervals specified and the cracks evaluated. Two sets of grips on either side of the frame are reciprocated at constant frequency for a preset number of cycles controlled by a cycle counter. Samples are loaded so that they are flat when the grip are tightened and flexed but not elongated during tester operation.
