When compared to the steel that has a higher percentage of carbon, these free cutting steels that come with a higher percentage of sulphur and phosphorous in it, are easy to cut through. The cutting process makes it possible to use it in the manufacturing industry. In order to make sure that the free cutting steel is sturdy and does not give out any troubles, the steel is mixed with either lead or tellurium to develop an alloy. EN1A is a very popular grade of low carbon-manganese free cutting steel, which is most suitable for the manufacture of repetition turned components, such as nuts, bolts, hydraulic fittings and studs, particularly where intricate drilling and machining operations are involved. It can be case-hardened, producing components with enhanced wear resistance. En1a is also available as En1a leaded (En1aPb) for greater machinability. Swarf will form in small chips to prevent machine blockage.

Free-cutting steels for CNC machines and automatic lathes. The Sandvik program of free-machining steels includes carbon steel in size range 0.49-12 mm (0.0192-0.472 in.) and stainless steel in size range 0.50-80 mm (0.0196-3.15 in.).

With its unique chemistry and micro structure, and very high inherent machinability it is used in high speed automats for higher productivity and, good surface finish of component and enhanced tool life. The grades being manufactured are: EN1A, EN1A(Pb), EN8M, SAE 1141 , SAE1144, SAE1146  etc.

Free cutting steel, Bright Steel Bars are made from Hot Rolled BarsWire Rod Coils through the process of Cold Drawing, Centreless Grinding, Peeling, Shaving, Turning or a combination of these processes to produce Bright Steel Bars. It gives greater dimensional accuracy, straightness, smooth surface, free from surface defects and enhanced mechanical properties to the product.

Bright Bars are of 2 types-1. Cold Drawn and Peeled 2. Turned.In a Cold Drawn Bright Bar the Hot Rolled Bars are pickled and drawn through a Tungsten Carbide Die as Cold Rolled, no heating is required, that is why it is called a Cold Drawn Bright Bar.Secondly in Peeled Turned Bright Bar the Hot Rolled Bar is fed into a Turning machine and the surface is turned removed to the required size of the Dia. This is also a Cold process, no heating is required. Bright Bars can be further Ground Finished for special applications. Bright Bars have a smooth and a Bright surface with Accurate Tolerance on the Dia. Accurate Tolerance means the tolerance of the Dia is very restricted i.e 0.10 mm approximatly depending on the size of the Dia and as per the customer’s specific requirement. These are the reasons why a Bright Bar enjoys advantages over a Hot Rolled Bar. Bright Bars can be used in automatic Machines for making Steelcomponents whereas a Hot Rolled Bar cannot be used.
