We are one of the reputed Manufacturers, Exporters and Suppliers of Blast Furnace Slag. The Blast Furnace Slag is formed when iron ore or iron pellets, coke and a flux (either limestone or dolomite) are melted together in a blast furnace. When the metallurgical smelting process is complete, the lime in the flux chemically combines with the aluminates and silicates of the ore and coke ash to form a non-metallic product called blast furnace slag. During the period of cooling and hardening from its molten state, BF slag can be cooled in several ways to form any of several types of BF slag products.

What is GGBS? Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag is a waste product of the steel industry that can be upcycled in cement to increase the strength and durability of concrete. A by-product of the steel-making industry, Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is produced by the rapid cooling of iron ore slag. Application of GGBS: GGBS is used to make durable concrete structures in Combination with ordinary Portland cement and/or other pozzolanic materials. The application of GGBFS is mainly as a clinker substitution in blended slag and normal cement production, and as a supplementary cementitious material in ready-mixed and site-batched concrete production

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS is formed when Blast Furnace Slag or BFS is successively at a fast rate quenched from the furnace rather than left for cooling. It has a density of about 60% to 70% that of natural sand. This material has a much increased resistance to sulfate attack. This eventually leads to better performance in countering acids of any type. In GBFS, no type of reaction related to alkali and silica occurs. Also the material provides a huge saving in connection to carbon dioxide emission which is an extra boon. What constitutes GBFS are its properties that consist of durability, appearance, higher ultimate strength than concrete which is made up of Portland cement and high sustainability level of the product made out of this material. Type of Production process at Royal Mineral The composition of the slag varies as per the impurities that are present and also on the composition of the raw materials through which the product has to be extracted. So first of all, the molten Blast furnace slag or BFS is separated from molten iron. Then the slag is made to run into or transported to ground area for air-cooling purposes. Here it solidifies and converts into a rock. The rock is called crystalline Blast furnace slag. Now the quenching of molded slag is done rapidly by passing it through high pressure trough and then consequently into high pressure sprays of water. This procedure eventually causes the molten slag to overheat and this leads into its explosion. This explosion that occurs forms what we know as Granulated Blast Furnace Slag or GBFS. This is then stocked in piles where it is dewatered and collected with conventional front-end loaders.

GGBS is obtained by quenching the molten ash from the furnace with the help of water. During this process, the slag gets fragmented and transformed into amorphous granules, which is then grounded to desired fineness for producing GGBS. The chemical composition of GGBS contributes to the production of superior cement. Over the period of time, its load-bearing properties continue to increase as it absorbs surplus lime released during hydration to form more calcium silicate hydrates. These hydrates add to the strength of the cement. The multi-fold advantages of GGBS when used with Portland cement Ensures higher durability of structure Reduces the temperature rise and helps to avoid early-age thermal cracking Improved workability Lighter than PSC Cement A Green building material for sustainable constructions Where GGBS can be used? High-rise buildings. Marine applications such as dams, shore protection construction. Effluent and sewage treatment plants. Cement products such as bricks, tiles, pipes, blocks, etc. RMC, Batching Plants, Concretes.

Air-cooled blast furnace slag is formed by allowing the molten slag to cool relatively slowly under ambient conditions; final cooling can be accelerated with a water spray. The cooled material is hard and dense, although it can have a vesicular texture with closed pores. After crushing and screening, air-cooled slag can be used in several applications. Granulated slag is formed by quenching molten slag in water to form sand-sized particles of glass. The disordered structure of this glass gives the material moderate hydraulic cementitious properties when very finely ground into granulated blast furnace slag, but if it can access free lime, the granulated blast furnace slag develops strong hydraulic cementitious properties.

Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) is a by-product from the blast-furnaces used to make iron. It is a glossy silicate of Calcium, Iron, Alumina and other base materials produced in Blast Furnace. Lime stone is poured in B.F. with Iron-ore because it gives exothermic reaction which generates heat. Lime stone itself melts and combines with Silicate. Hence it is a mixture of Calcium Silicate, Iron and Aluminium Silicate and Cement is also a mixture Mono, Di, Tri and Tetra Silicates with Iron & Aluminium Silicates. Therefore GGBS is a meterial with Cementitious nature. We can supply GGBS of different quality and properties engineered to specific customer’s demands at very competitive rates, in bulk carriers, or packed in 50 kg HDPE bags. Applications of GGBS :GGBS is used to make durable concrete structures in combination with ordinary portland cement and/or other pozzolanic materials. GGBS has been widely used for its superiority in concrete durability, extending the lifespan of buildings from fifty years to a hundred years. Two major uses of GGBS are in the production of quality-improved slag cement with GGBS content ranging typically from 30 to 70%; and in the production of ready-mixed concrete. Advantages of GGBS :Concrete made with GGBS cement sets more slowly than concrete made with ordinary Portland cement, depending on the amount of GGBS in the cementitious material, but also continues to gain strength over a longer period in production conditions. This results in lower heat of hydration and lower temperature rises, and makes avoiding cold joints easier.Use of GGBS significantly reduces the risk of damages caused by alkali–silica reaction (ASR), provides higher resistance to chloride ingress - reducing the risk of reinforcement corrosion - and provides higher resistance to attacks by sulfate and other chemicals.
