Mill drives are generally used in sugar mills for crushing of the sugar cane. Kavitsu has been supplying planetary gear products for the sugar industry since past 15 years. Planetary gearboxes have always been more efficient and have had better mechanical ratings as compared with same powered helical gearboxes, and hence, the planetary mill drives are no different. They offer additional advantages such as space saving, have more efficiency, less mechanical losses and so on.

Planetary Gearboxes have much higher mechanical rating compared to parallel shaft Gearbox as the power being transmitted gets equally distributed among three to five streams in each stage thus reducing the induced stresses which very much optimizes the size as well allows to accommodate higher ratio to eliminate open pair.

This gearboxes are foot mounted, three stage, parallel shaft, helical gear reducer with solid input and out put shaft. The gear box body is out of C.I. and the top gear case has been specially designed to mount electrical motor directly on it. Gearless mill drive (GMD) technology has further expanded the use of large AGSAG milling allowing Metso to produce the world's largest SAG mill of 42’ in diameter drawing power at 28 MW. Today, Metso is the world leading supplier of gearless AGSAG mills operating globally.

Cyclo Transmission Ltd. conducted a study in several sugar plants across India for crystalliser Drives based on speed and capacity of crystalliser, the Power consumption, size, maintenance frequency, and construction of the drives. It was observed that the power consumption of this application was two to three times the actual requirement at the crystalliser shaft. The existing drive unit was highly inefficient due to the double worm reduction arrangement. The maintenance costs of these units were also higher due to open gearing. As a solution to the above problems, Cyclo Transmissions Ltd. introduced planetary gearboxes for crystalliser in Sugar industry. Cyclo planetary gearboxes have helped in reducing the power consumption to almost one third compared to conventional double-worm reduction drives. The drives are fully enclosed to provide sealing against dust and other foreign particles, and hence longer gearbox life. All gears and bearings are splash lubricated which also facilitates heat dissipation. The gearbox has a handle for manual operation in case of power failure. CYCLO Crystalliser Keyed Series speed reducers are available in five models with a wide variety of reduction ratios and various choices of mounting options (Frame sizes).
