The packaging process for machine drills is an application example for the precise detection capabilities of the ML6-8-H background suppression sensor series. First, the completeness of the drill is verified by checking for presence of the drill tip. Here the small, sharp light spot enables proper small parts detection. Next, proper placement of the drill into its packaging is checked. One sensor is triggering on the leading edge of the package and is activated. An additional ML6-8-H photoelectric sensor verifies the presence of the drill in the package's mold from a top-view position. This packaging application demonstrates the very low black-to-white difference and excellent background suppression that is necessary to detect the dark drill in front of the bright packaging material.
