Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) is a modification of TIG(GTAW) Welding Process. As Plasma is an intense source of heat, it is used to fuse metals in this process and increase productivity. In PAW, as the electrode is placed within the body of the torch, plasma arc can be separated from the shielding gas. The plasma is then forced through a fine-bore copper nozzle, that compresses the arc and the plasma exits at very high velocity (approximately at the speed of sound) and a temperature approaching 28,000 °C (50,000 °F) or higher. Plasma is the temporary state of a gas.

Specifications Manufacturers of Micro Plasma welding systems for precision welding of small parts. Process: Plasma welding is very similar to TIG as the arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the work-piece. However, by positioning the electrode within the body of the torch, the plasma arc can be separated from the shielding gas envelope. Plasma is then forced through a fine-bore copper nozzle which constricts the arc. The micro-plasma arc can be operated at very low welding currents. Micro-plasma is traditionally used for welding thin sheets (down to 0.1 mm thickness), and wire and mesh sections, tubes and various delicate assemblies and parts with great precision and reliability. Features: IGBT inverter based with integrated HF start system. PLC sequencer for automatic operation and integration with welding lathe / positioner / turntable / linear welding fixture etc. Wave Correction Technique - Milli second square wave correction technique for fast correction of welding current irrespective of arc length or input voltage variation. Stable Arc - PLL based closed loop system for highly stable arc. Low Metal Thickness - The Machine is capable of welding metal sheet of capability from 10 microns to 3mm thickness. Low distortion and less tension. Pulsed current at high frequency, up slope and down slope for current provided. Manual as well as Robotic Torch - A manual torch and a machine torch available for manual or mechanized operation. Programmable - The machine is fully programmable with built in welding cycle timer in the auto mode. Digital Version - Digital version available on demand with computer interface for automatic welding with turntable / welding lathe / linear welding automation as required.

Plasma arc welding (PAW) is a advanced version of the tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process. TIG welding has a free-burning arc, which is unstable and tends to wander in the low current range. With increase in current, the arc power increases and the arc diameter also increases. This leads to a lack of concentrated power in the work-piece, which results in a bigger seam and a larger heat-affected zone. Unlike TIG-welding torches, PAW uses a constricting nozzle and employs two separate gas flows, which give rise to a concentrated plasma arc having a narrow columnar shape. Plasma welding is a superior variation of the TIG process that offers many advantages over TIG Increase productivity by reducing down time. Reduces scrap by providing consistent arc starting every time. Improved process control for repeatable, high quality welds. Reduces interference (noise) with computers, phone systems, CNC controllers Simply stated, plasma welding is a variation to GTAW (TIG) that encloses the tungsten electrode in a protected environment and delivers the arc through a cooled copper tip. Enclosing the electrode protects it from contamination, thus substantially extending electrode life. The consistent arc shape of plasma results in onsistent weld for 8 fours or more of operation as compared to automated TIG welding, where deterioration of the exposed TIG electrode can result in weld arc variations in one hour or less of operation. Plasma welding uses a pilot arc to consistently transfer the arc to the work without the repeated use of high frequency current. The ultima 150 pilot arc circuit results in repetitive starting and reduces problems of high frequency interference with CNC controls, phones and computers which are common with the TIG process.
