Pot PTFE bearing consists of a metal piston supported by a disc of unreinforced elastomer that is confined within a metal cylinder for allowing rotational movement about an axis in the horizontal plane and to bear and to bear and transmit vertical load. Pot bearings may be provided with sliding assembly (with or without restraint in the form of a guide along the desired direction to bear and transmit horizontal force) comprising of stainless steel plate attached to metal backing plate sliding in a horizontal plane over sliding material confined in recess(s) on the piston which shall be termed as sliding/Guided Pot bearings. Depending on the desired degree of freedom Pot bearings may be of three types as follows:

Testing of POT - PEFE Bearing are used to solve the problems of movement caused due to temperature change and differential material thermal expansion, settlement and natural forces encountered by high winds and even seismic activity. A Testing of POT - PEFE Bearing comprises an upper element and a lower element, which operate by sliding against one another. The upper element is generally larger than the lower element by the amount of the anticipated movement. This ensures that the lower element is subjected to uniform load throughout motion and excludes foreign matter from the sliding interface. Typical applications include construction, bridge bearings, pedestrian footbridges, storage tanks & structure expansion, power plants, Cooling tower and movement joints.

These bearings offer an economical solution where elastomeric bearings are unable to accommodate high horizontal movement at low reactions on the supporting columns. They can be bonded to elastomer pad to accommodate rotation. In these type of bearings linear movement is provided by sliding of stainless steel plate over PTFE sheet. To overcome high friction in steel sliding bearings, PTFE is used to provided translation about the axis perpendicular to the plane of sliding

Free bearing allows rotation, longitudinal movement & transverse movements. The main components of a free bearing are the same as those of a fixed bearing, but are able to provide two-direction movements. PTFE is a well known polymer which possesses some remarkable properties. The coefficient of friction when sliding against a polished surface can be as low as 0.01 which compares with ice sliding on ice. In addition, its coefficient of friction is the lowest at highest specific pressures which make it particularly suitable for use in structural bearings. In order to minimize space requirements, Pot Bearings are designed for relatively high contact pressures against the structure. This also ensures lowest friction values. Most elastomers cannot sustain such pressures in their free state and must be effectively contained to prevent over straining. When constrained in this way, the elastomer behaves as a semi-viscous fluid and can safely accommodate useful degrees of angular displacement. POT PTFE BEARING is a bearing which carries vertical load by compression on an elastomeric disc confined in a steel cylinder and which accommodates rotations by deformations of the disc. The elastomer under a triaxial pressure offers low resistance to deformation but high vertical stiffness. POT PTFE Bearings are capable of bearing vertical load, horizontal forces and allows movement as well as rotation alongany horizontal axis. These type of bearings are in huge demand for road, bridge, auditoriums, skywalks etc.

In POT bearings, a round-shaped steel pot houses a rubber disc made of chloroprene rubber called as elastomer disc. This elastomer disc acts like a liquid when subjected to high loads which, in turn, takes the rotation as well as load of the structure. POT bearings, designed and manufactured indigenously by CECO, are of high quality and prove to be practically maintenance-free. Depending on the requirements of a specific bridge structure, CECO POT bearings are custom-designed and manufactured to any size.
