The Power Chucks are designed and constructed to hold heavy loads during long operation time, the Chucks effectively convert axially transmitted forces on a job into radial forces at the jaws through the wedges. This conversion of forces, both low and high chucking forces, also the chucks have an internal locking system to ensure jobs so not fly off. The Chuck body is made of forged steel with the guideways specially hardened and then ground to a smooth finish. The wedge side is made of nickel chromium steel and case hardened and all working surfaces are well ground. The base jaws with serrations on top face are also made of nickel chromium steel and case hardened. The Jaws are grounded to perfectly match both the wedge and guideways. The base jaws are guided by deep and wide hardened slots in the Chuck body, to ensure ample load bearing area to withstand resultant clamping forces. for periodic manual lubrication of the sliding surfaces grease nipples have been provided. The reversible hard Jaws have serration at the bottom to match the base Jaws. Hard Jaws of various radii are available to hold a wide range of jobs.

The chuck is mounted at the front end and the hydraulic Pneumatic cylinder or electro-mechanical actuating device is mounted at the rear end of the headstock spindle of the lathe. The chuck and cylinderactuator are connected to each other by a draw bar on draw pipe. The cylinder is connected to two pressure pipes, eash supplying oil under pressure or compressed air to each of the two chambers of the cylinder. The cylinder piston exerts pull of push force when oil or air is fed to the two chambers of the cylinder via a control valve. in case of Hydraulic Cylinders, a drainpipe is also connected to the cylinder to return the leakage oil to the reservoir. Electro-mechanical actuator has an in-built three phase tapered brake motor, the rotary motion of which is converted into axial motion by a set of planetary gears to push or pull the draw bar pipe at the required operating force.
