Portland Slag Cement is blended cement consisting of intimately inter-ground mixture of Portland cement clinker and granulated blast furnace slag, or an intimate and uniform blend of Portland cement and fine granulated blast furnace slag, together with required quantity of gypsum, in which the amount of slag constituent is within the specified limit.PSC is defined by BIS specifications IS:4551989. Portland slag cement is nowadays commonly used in general civil engineering construction works and is mainly preferred for construction of main structures and in coastal areas where excessive amount of chloride and sulphate are present. It is most useful in massive construction projects such as dams. Its significant properties like resistance to chemical attack makes it most suitable for usage in water retainer structures and structures which are vulnerable to any form of chemical attack.

Slag Content is used where the heat of hydration of the concrete is required to be minimized, where increased resistance is required against chlorideion, sulphate of seawater attack, or to reduce the likelihood of alkali aggregate reaction.

PSC or Portland Slag cement is manufactured by either grinding the Portland clinker with gypsum and granulated slag or blending the ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) with Ordinary Portland cement by means of mechanical blenders. Normal composition of portland cement is 30 % clinker, 5 % gypsum and 70 % blast furnace granulated slag. The quality of slag used in cement manufacturing is governed by IS 12089:1987.

Portland Slag Cement (PSC) has the incredible features of reduction in heat during hydration; increase lateral strength; improvement in workability leading into less bleeding; better interface with aggregates resulting into inhibition of aggregate reaction. Water required for making concrete with Satwik Cement is lower which will result higher strength due to lower water cement ratio. This kind of cement is manufactured by grinding the Clinker with Blast Furnace granulated Slag and Gypsum. These elements are ground to desired fineness.

Portland Slag Cement (PSC), conforming to the IS 455-1989, is manufactured from high quality clinker and superior quality granulated blast furnace slag. The slag used contains more than 95% glass content – the most desired parameter to manufacture PSC. The unique feature of our Grinding Units used for manufacturing this cement is the Vertical Roller Mills (VRM) – the most modern technology imported from LoescheGmBH, Germany. The clinker and slag are separately ground to reach high fineness level and then blended in a high efficiency mechanical blender. This has not only enabled us to achieve high fineness (Blaine 3700+ cm2g) in our Maha Cement but also steep particle size distribution (PDS) which helps Maha Cement achieve high early strength and excellent durability properties in concrete.

Hi-bond cement has started producing psc cement confirming to bis 455-1989 under the brand name of special hi-bond cement. The product is in fact comparable to opc 53 grade in terms of strength, now a days to make structures more durable and hostile environment resistant. Special hi-bond cement has ggbfs (graund granulated blast furness slag) upto 40% of the cement, this slag has got more than 90% fine and uniform size of glass contains which gives protection to the structure from adverse impact of sulphate, chlorides and acid, in state of gujarat there are no of projects which use only slag cement, the special application of this product is in all projects such as, ports, canals, high rise buildings, mass concreting, etc.

According to the BIS requirements, 53-grade OPC must have a 28-day compressive strength of no less than 53 MPa For certain specialized products, such as pre-stressed concrete and certain pre-cast concrete items requiring high strength, 53-grade OPC is considered useful as it can produce high- grade concrete at lower cement content levels. We produce 53-grade OPC by exposing the clinker to the grinding process for longer period of time, which results in a higher density and stronger cement.
