The Solar Powered Air Dryer is new and innovative technology basing on blending Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic Technologies. How does it work? The Solar radiation passes through the transparent glass window, located on the top of the cabinet, which is oriented to south with a tilt angle equal to the latitude to collect maximum radiation. The cabinet is made of anti-corrosive material and of modular nature to meet the varying sizes and loading capacities of products, ranging from 8 to 50 kgs and above. The ambient air enters from the bottom of the cabinet and gets heated up with Solar radiation incident from the top window. The heat energy is trapped in the cabinet and heats up the air. As a result the wavelength of solar radiation shifts to infrared region, causing green house effect. The hot air passes through the trays, carries the moisture from the product to the space below the glass. Then, Solar Photovoltaic fans exhausts this air containing moisture. The forced air circulation r in the cabinet is achieved through this solar fan. The electrical heaters are provided as standby to meet any exigencies on non-sunny days.

Black colored metal absorber is placed inside the glass-covered and three side insulated collector. The absorber is actually a hollow box having two openings, one is for cold air inlet and the other is for hot air outlet. The absorber has been designed in such a way that air can stay inside for an optimum period of time for absorbing maximum possible heat during it’s travel from inlet to outlet and gradually become hot. A low powered blower supplies air through absorber circuit. This hot and dry air then passes through a drying chamber where something is kept for drying.
