PAL POWERFLUID-20 is a fluid medium specially developed to meet the requirements of all types of transformers from medium to extra high voltage range ensuring optimum performance and safety of the transformers. It cools the transformers and insulates the electrical coils from shorting out. It is non-conductive and has excellent fluidity, even at low temperature (-6�C). It has high flash point resulting in low evaporation losses and has good dielectric properties resulting in minimum power loss. Inhibiting oil implies making an addition of substance to delay oxidation. People use inhibitors usually in both new and used transformer oil. DBPC or Ditertiary Butyl Para Cresol is commonly used as inhibitor, in 2.5:3 parts 1000 parts of oil by weight. You can mix the new oils with each other if they satisfy the same standard specifications shared by experts.

transformer oil, originating from the base fluid used in the oil has been a matter of serious concern. There have been numerous documented cases of failure traced to presence of corrosive sulphur, leading to elaborate investigations all over the industry. Naphthenic base oils, traditionally regarded as the best base fluids for transformer oils cannot be made totally devoid of sulphur, even by the best available techniques. Some manufacturers use passivators as additives in transformer oils to reduce the effect of corrosive sulphur. This approach only marginally reduces the risk of corrosive sulphur effect. The key to transformer oil performance therefore is directly linked to use of better base oil with zero sulphur made from advanced refining technology.

Transformer Oils are electrical insulating oils produced by distillation of virgin paraffinic and naphthenic crude oils followed by modern technologies involving high pressure hydrogenation and hydro-treatment. All the processes are monitored closely and appropriate Base Oil fractions are selected for further processing. Further processing involves removal of moisture and polar impurities to obtain good electrical properties. The technologies result in products with very low pour point, excellent oxidation stability, cooling characteristics and electrical properties. These properties make them suitable for the most demanding transformer applications.

The plant is suitable for treating transformer oil and it will make it new with the help of reclamation bags and than by heating it and passing it through specially designed filter and subjecting it to ultra high vacuum treatment which dehydrates and degasifies the oil to achieve following improvements after filtration as per IS 335-1993 for new transformer oil purification and IS 1866 for used transformer oil filtering.

Transformer Oil or Dielectric Insulation Oil and other oils required for electrical machinery and installations can be manufactured using hydro finished base oils of group II +. The base stocks are selected based on viscosity requirements of the user. In colder countries pour point is also a critical property for base oil selection. Transformer Oil (TO) be used for filling the transformer with a primary objective of providing electrical insulation between the primary and secondary coils. Dissipation of heat generated during the process is also an important function. Electrical insulation is favored by high viscosity and heat dissipation is favored by low viscosity and circulation of fluid. Base oil viscosity at a compromise level is selected. Viscosity ranges for base oil slightly defer country to country, generally in the range of 10 to 40 cst. at 400 Degree C. During the service temperature of oil rises to about 60-800 Degree C. Viscosity of oil decreases due to temperature rise. Transformer has large extended surfaces exposed to atmosphere. The oil circulates through these tubes and dissipates heat into the atmosphere.

All high capacity transformers in use today have to cope with voltages in excess of 400 kV. Therefore it becomes imperative to maintain optimal insulation properties of the transformer oils by rigid control over moisture, dissolved gases, particulative contamination and acidity. Transformer oil deteriorates with time and the decay begins the moment the transformer oil is shipped from manufacturer's factory. High temperatures, the presence of oxygen and water, the catalytic action of the materials within the transformer, all combine to result in oxidation and cracking of the transformer oil. The by-products of this oxidative process are acidic in nature which results in an ever increasing rate of deterioration of the transformer and its oil.
