Slot Sensors also called as Fork Switches because of their forked shape, detect objects that pass between the two arms one is the Transmitter & the other is the Receiver. These sensors operate on a through beam design, they combine the transmitter & receiver into a fixed housing so alignment is never an issue. The transmitter emits pulsed light in the infrared wavelength range. The receiver detects the light beam and immediately converts a beam interruption caused by an object in the sensing zone into a switched signal. Fork Width is defined as the height between the transmitter & receiver. Depth is defined as the distance between the transmitter & receiver area and back of the opening.

Electronics of LSV excites the piezo-electric-crystals inside tuning fork, which makes the fork tines vibrate.LSV electronics simply invoke the peizo-electric crystals which are present inside of the turning fork and which enable fork tines to vibrate at their precise resonance frequency while in the free air.

In point level measurement with vibrating level switches, a rod or a fork is set vibrating. When the vibrating probe comes into contact with the medium, the vibration changes and the device outputs a switching command. Vibrating level switches are used in liquids as well as in granular and powdery bulk solids.

When material touches the fork tines, it effectively damps the mechanical vibrations. This-way material de-tunes the tuning fork off its resonance. This lack of resonance causes fall of amplitude as seen by electronics inside the LSV level limit switch. Which then generates presence of material signal at its output.
