Scratch hardness tester is a tool to check the resistance of the coating against the scratching due to external physical strain. In this test, a metal piece is coated with the sample of paint or varnish or lacquer that is to be tested. A needle is used to scratch the sample. A specified load is applied on the sample via needle as per the industrial requirements. The needle makes repeated attempt to scratch the sample.
