Peru balsam is an aromatic resin which is extracted from a medicinal tree myroxylon, also known as quina, balsamo, tolu and santos mahogany. This tree is used in the manufacturing of perfume because of its sweet scent which is reminiscent of vanilla and green olives with subtle hint of cinnamon. The trees of myroxylon can grow 40m tall. The leaves of this tree are evergreen and pinnate and flowers are white in color with yellow stamens. Peru balsam has a beautiful fragrance and that is why it is used in perfume industry and in food industry as well. Because of its medicinal value it is also used in pharmaceutical industry.
