Turmeric Powder is used to flavor and color foodstuffs. Turmeric oleoresin is used in brine pickles and to some extent in mayonnaise and relish formulations, non-alcoholic beverages, gelatins, butter and cheese, etc. The color curcuma extracted from turmeric is used as colorants. Turmeric Powder is also used as a dye in Textile industry. Turmeric Powder is used in the preparation of medicinal oils, ointments, and poultice. Turmeric Powder is stomachic, carminative, tonic, blood purifier and an antiseptic. Turmeric Powder is also used in cosmetics. The aqueous extract of Turmeric Powder has biopesticidal properties. In Goa and Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka state, India), turmeric plant leaf is used to prepare special sweet dishes, patoleo, by layering rice flour and coconut-jaggery mixture on the leaf, and then closing and steaming it in a special copper steamer (Goa). In Tamil Nadu, an Indian State, it is called "Manjal", which is extensively used for its aroma, color and as a disinfectant. How We Make The Turmeric Powder? We boil the root of the Curcuma Longa for 30-45 minutes in a pot filled with fresh water. The boiling procedure is known as curing. The process will make the root softer so we can grind it easily. It will enhance its color and flavor as well. After boiling we need to peel the outer layer of the root and then dry for a week without using direct sunlight so that there should not be any moisture content on the root. Using a hammer, break the dried roots in to multiple pieces and grind it in a grinder. Filter the grinded powder to remove the root chunks and store it in a jar having air tight lid.
